  • Location: Work from home arrangement based in South Australia on Kaurna land.
  • Reports to: SARAA Board
  • Commencement: Negotiable commencing in March 2023.

SA Rainbow Advocacy Alliance (SARAA) is a community-run charity working to advocate, inform and educate for a LGBTIQA+ inclusive, healthy and safe South Australia.

  1. Advocacy: We advocate for decision-makers to make changes to improve LGBTIQA+ health and rights.
  2. Community: We create opportunities for LGBTIQA+ communities to take action on issues that matter to us.
  3. Awareness: We increase awareness of LGBTIQA+ experiences in the broader South Australian community.

About the role

SA Rainbow Advocacy Alliance is seeking a highly motivated campaigner with strong communication and organisation skills to lead SARAA’s advocacy for an LGBTIQA+ inclusive, healthy and safe South Australia.

In this role you’ll drive the strategy and delivery of SARAA’s campaigns, working with our small passionate team of volunteers to secure positive policy changes for LGBTIQA+ South Australia.

You’ll enjoy working to engage, inform and activate our LGBTIQA+ community and finding ways to amplify their voices and stories.

You’ll use a range of creative campaigning tactics from community organising, political engagement and traditional media and will be keeping an eye on emerging opportunities to improve the wellbeing of LGBTIQA+ South Australians.

Responsibilities

In this role you’ll be responsible for coordinating SARAA’s LGBTIQA+ advocacy. You will:

  • write emails to our supporters, policy briefings, submissions to public consultations, and media releases relating to LGBTIQA+ issues
  • empower the voices from our diverse community, enabling them to take action online and in person
  • build relationships with a range of stakeholders, including being available for infrequent meetings with key decision makers from the political spectrum
  • identify key campaign opportunities to improve the wellbeing of LGBTIQA+ South Australians
  • help shape campaign messaging and strategy
  • develop social media content to promote SARAA’s campaigns and advocacy
  • support SARAA to engage with South Australian LGBTIQA+ communities
  • support SARAA to meet it’s contractual and funding obligations
  • comply with SARAA’s policies, for example work health and safety, child safety.

Out of hours and weekend work may occasionally be required.

Who we’re looking for

We’re looking for someone with the following skills, attributes and experience:

  • Passion for LGBTIQA+ issues: Has experience working with LGBTIQA+ communities and understands social justice issues related to LGBTIQA+ identities, racism & cultural diversity, First Nation’s justice and disability access.
  • Politically aware: Keeps an eye on South Australian news, politics and cultural trends so you can spot opportunities for change. You understand the South Australian political system and landscape, have experience with policy analysis and can write policy briefings and submissions.
  • Campaign and organizing experience: Understands principles of campaigning, how to make change happen and what motivates people to take action on issues that they care about.
  • Communication skills: Can write a great email or social media post and talk to people who are invested in the campaign.
  • Works independently: Proven ability to work independently and with a remote team. You take ownership of your work and can operate with a high degree of autonomy.
  • Time management: You can multitask, plan ahead and preempt project milestones, ensuring follow-up.
  • Digital expertise: Experience with Action Network or campaigning software, Google workspace, social media and website applications.
