We are currently seeking a passionate and experienced Kaurna Engagement and Development Officer to join our growing organisation.

KYAC is the Prescribed Body Corporate for the Kaurna People following the native title determination over the Adelaide region in March 2018. KYAC represents the rights and interests of Kaurna people and works across community, government and private sectors to further Kaurna interests and opportunities. 

The Kaurna Engagement and Development Officer (Infrastructure Projects) plays a key role in supporting the KYAC Board and Kaurna community engage with medium to large infrastructure projects across Kaurna yerta and realise opportunities for Kaurna people, our culture and our future.

The role is based in the Adelaide CBD with travel across Kaurna Yerta and reports directly to the KYAC Board. This position has been funded by the South Australian Department for Infrastructure and Transport (DIT) to support KYAC in effectively managing its response to major infrastructure projects—most notably the Torrens to Darlington (T2D) Project.

The Kaurna Engagement and Development Officer (Infrastructure Projects)

  • provides a resource to the KYAC Board to support communications, meetings and other engagements between the Board and DIT staff and contractors
  • supports Kaurna participation in cultural expression and urban design, including through project-specific working groups
  • identifies pathways and initiatives to increase Kaurna-specific employment, business, and socio-economic opportunities
  • works with Kaurna Cultural Heritage Team to protect and manage cultural heritage
  • works collaboratively with the Kaurna community, government and private sector to maintain positive working relationships.

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • a passion for stakeholder and community engagement with relevant qualifications or experience, particularly the context of infrastructure projects
  • understanding of, or demonstrated ability to learn about, Kaurna native title, cultural heritage, and community governance and experience working with Traditional Owners
  • ability to work with Boards and community members to build capability and deliver cultural and socio-economic outcomes
  • strong communication, administrative and organisational skills
  • ability to work sensitively in difficult and challenging cross-sector environments
  • ability to positively and professionally represent KYAC.
