Acknowledgement of Country

Together Two acknowledges the Gadigal and Wangal people of the Eora Nation, the Traditional Custodians of the land on which we operate. We pay our respects to Elders past and present and recognise their continuing connection to land, waters and community. We particularly welcome Expressions of Interest from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people for this role.

About Together Two

Together Two is a 40-year-old place-based community organisation in Sydney’s Inner West. We are an NDIS Registered Provider, a Commonwealth Home Support Programme provider, an ACNC-registered charity, and a Targeted Earlier Intervention provider for NSW DCJ. We are progressing toward direct aged care provider registration in August 2026 and have just completed a successful NDIS mid-term audit with zero non-conformities.

Our Community Services Team work alongside the Inner West community through our Good in the Hood partnerships, our social enterprise café in development at Rozelle, and a Wellbeing Hub in our strategic plan. Our practice is grounded in evidence-based community-led and family-inclusive frameworks. We believe strong organisations grow with the people they support, not away from them.

About the opportunity

We are seeking a new Non-Executive Director to join our Board, addressing Vacancy 2 on our March 2026 Board Skills Matrix: community sector experience, place-based practice, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Board member, or additional lived experience.

About you

We are looking for a Director with experience in the community sector, place-based community development, or comparable lived experience and community connection that brings the voices of the people we serve into our governance.

Strong applicants will have most of the following:

  • Community sector or place-based practice — experience in neighbourhood centres, community-controlled organisations, local government community services, community legal centres, advocacy, settlement services, mental health peer work, or similar settings.
  • Connection to the Inner West of Sydney, or comparable place-based community work elsewhere — relationships, networks and an instinct for how community sits within a particular place.
  • A demonstrated commitment to working alongside people who experience marginalisation — understanding power, voice, self-determination, and the role of formal services as part of (not in place of) community.
  • Familiarity with co-design, community-led research, or participatory governance — frameworks and the practical disciplines of working with rather than for community.
  • Comfort with the audit and regulatory environment of an NDIS, aged care, TEI and SSRC provider — even if you have not worked inside one yourself.

We particularly welcome Expressions of Interest from:

  • Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, including those with connection to Country and community in NSW.
  • People with lived experience of disability, mental health, family caring, or other forms of vulnerability that our participants and community members experience.
  • People with experience in social enterprise — particularly hospitality, retail or community-led venues — relevant to our developing café and Wellbeing Hub.
  • Family members and supporters of NDIS participants or aged care recipients.

You will need sound judgment, integrity, and the time and willingness to commit to a working Board that takes its governance duties seriously. Previous Board, Committee or AICD experience is welcome but not essential as we provide a structured induction and ongoing development.

Time commitment

Approximately 8 to 10 days per year: five Board meetings, four sub-committee meetings, an annual strategy day, and preparation time. Voluntary and unpaid in line with not-for-profit good practice; reasonable expenses reimbursed.

Initial term is three years, renewable to a maximum of nine years (ACNC good practice).

Required checks

NDIS Worker Screening Clearance, Working with Children Check (NSW), 100-point ID, AFP criminal history check, insolvency check.
