about the role

This position is part of the Redress Scheme Support Services (RSSS) team in the Northern Territory. It works closely with the Manager of Adult Specialist Support Services, RA-NT Aboriginal and Islander Cultural Officers, Redress Counsellors/Case Workers and other RA-NT services to ensure a culturally appropriate, and quality service delivery.

The primary function of this Aboriginal Identified position is to work alongside the Counsellor/Case Workers and Manager to ensure that communities are provided with quality support, become knowledgeable of, and have access to the RSSS within the Alice Springs region.

In addition, the position holds an important role along with all other program staff to ensure that the service provided is culturally safe for Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander people.

Given the intensive outreach nature of this service opportunity in Central Australia, a core part of this role requires work along with RSSS team (of which this role is a part of) to be networking and liaising with stakeholders and the local community, as well as the provision of information sessions on the RSSS and National Redress Scheme.

In the performance of this role, you are required to comply with the Safeguarding Children and Young People Practice and Behaviour Guidelines and to participate in cultural fitness activities.

Selection Criteria

Essential;

  • Demonstrated experience in providing case management and support to clients, specifically Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
  • Demonstrated capacity to provide flexible responses to emerging needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander clients.
  • Demonstrated capacity in stakeholder and community engagement, including the delivery of information to stakeholders and/or community groups.
  • Knowledge of current theory and practice relating to trauma informed practice including knowledge of the impact and effects of institutional childhood sexual abuse on adult functioning.
  • Demonstrated experience in working with individuals where complex trauma has been experienced.
  • Demonstrated ability to work and communicate effectively with a wide range of people from different cultural backgrounds and to respond sensitively and appropriately to people in a variety of situations.
  • Ability and commitment to work as a team member within the ethos and values of RA-NT.

Desirable;

  • Registration or eligibility for registration as a social worker, psychologists, counsellor, community development or another relevant field.
  • Knowledge of the historical context of the Royal Commission into Institutional responses to Child Sexual Abuse.

Requirements

Prior to commencing in this role, you must possess the following:

  • A satisfactory Northern Territory working with children’s check.
  • A satisfactory National Criminal History Check.
  • Possession of a current NT Driver’s Licence.
