When a child is diagnosed with cancer, it affects the whole family. In the daunting and unpredictable experience that follows diagnosis, a child needs as much stability and support from their family as possible. Redkite is a lifeline for families, providing real emotional, financial and practical support. Because holding it together when your child’s life is in question can feel impossible.

The role

The primary purpose of this position is to provide support to families (Australian residents and those referred from New Caledonia) whose children are treated at The Children’s Hospital at Westmead. This includes registering families for Redkite services, promoting Redkite’s programs, and facilitating peer support and activities. This role will develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders at The Children’s Hospital at Westmead, including the management of volunteers.

About you

The position is ideal for someone who has had some experience providing support services. The successful candidate must be able to demonstrate the following skills & experience:

Essential:

  • A minimum of 2 years’ experience providing support services to children, young people and families
  • Excellent verbal communication skills, fluency in both English and French
  • Relevant qualifications (e.g. Human Services Degree)
  • Experience delivering family and peer support programs
  • Ability to engage with and provide support to children, young people and families
  • Ability to establish and maintain collaborative partnerships with internal and external key stakeholders in relation to optimising service delivery outcomes
  • Case-noting and record-keeping skills
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office applications

Desirable:

  • Previous employment in oncology or other health related support areas (including community agencies)
  • Knowledge of strength-based models of practice
  • Experience in developing family support programs
  • Familiarity with Salesforce database

Salary

SCHADS Award Social and Community Services classification level 3.
