Service Promotion & Engagement Officer - Disability Royal Commission Counselling Service

There is currently a vacancy for a contract position (till August 31 2021) of Service Promotion & Engagement Officer, based at West Leederville or alternate metro location.

The role – Service Promotion & Engagement Officer (contract 30- 37.5hrs/wk).

The Counselling & Support Service is for people affected by the Royal Commission into Violence, Abuse, Neglect and Exploitation of People with a Disability, meeting the diverse needs of people with disability, their families, carers, friends and support workers across Western Australia.

In partnership with the Snr Manger, and the program Coordinator this role will raise awareness of the Counselling and Support Service for people affected by the Disability Royal Commission (CSDRC) in metropolitan and regional areas of Western Australia. This role will also develop and implement a community engagement plan to strengthen the profile of CSDRC, using innovative and flexible engagement strategies to communicate with diverse and/or hard to reach populations including Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CaLD) communities.

Enhance/establish relationships, networks, and referral pathways for service providers, community-based networks, and other relevant stakeholders in the community.

The successful candidate will demonstrate:


  • Qualifications in Social Work, community development or other related discipline or equivalent relevant vocational experience, qualification, or training appropriate to the role.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills including public speaking.
  • Experience in community collaboration, community engagement, project management, working with people living with disability, people from CaLD backgrounds, and/or Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
  • Successful experience in engaging stakeholders across various levels of government and non-government human services.
  • Awareness of ethical practice within a clinical environment.
  • Demonstrated experience in implementing cultural safety with diverse communities.
  • Awareness of the principles of trauma informed practice.
  • Understanding issues being addressed by the Disability Royal Commission and how these may impact on people living with disability, their families, and supporters.
  • Sound practice in managing risk and maintaining safety outside of the office environment.
  • Willingness and ability to travel to and work in offsite locations, including outreach to rural/remote locations throughout WA as required.
  • Possession of a current National Federal Police Clearance and Working with Children Check or willingness to obtain them incorporating criminal and traffic convictions and infringements.


  • Lived experience of disability, being from a culturally diverse background, or Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander background.
  • Flexibility to work alternate hours and/or days and location as required to meet program needs
  • Knowledge of the history, social context and impact on individuals/families of disability in Australia. 
  • Previous experience in a similar capacity or role in a similar organisation.
