ABOUT THE ORGANISATION

The Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara Education Committee Aboriginal Corporation (PYEC) is an Anangu-run organisation that supports education of Anangu in the APY Lands. PYEC oversees education across the APY Lands and runs a number of projects to support the education and advancement of Anangu. PYEC has a close relationship with the South Australian Department for Education.

The APY Lands cover an area in excess of 100,000 square kilometres in northern South Australia and is extremely remote, with the nearest major town being five to six hours away in Alice Springs. The resident population is estimated to be 2,500 people spread across a number of communities and homelands. Predominant languages spoken are Pitjantjatjara and Yankunytjatjara, as well as varying levels of English.

PYEC, is funded by the National Indigenous Australians Agency (NIAA) to deliver the Remote School Attendance Strategy (RSAS) for the APY Lands in the Iwantja/Indulkana, Kaltjiti/Fregon, Kenmore Park, Mimili, Amata, Murputja, Pipalyatjara, and Pukatja/Ernabella communities.

To deliver the RSAS, PYEC has developed the Nganampa Education Tjitji Tjutaku (NETT) - Kunpuntjaku. NETT Kunpuntjaku is designed to work with families, schools, and communities to encourage more children to go to school each and every day.

ABOUT THE ROLE

The NETT Program Manager is responsible for developing, implementing, managing, and evaluating the RSAS operational framework across selected communities in the APY Lands. The NETT Program Manager operates under limited direction from the General Manager and will work closely and sensitively withNETT Coordinators, team members, local parents, families, and other key stakeholders.

The objectives of the NETT Program Manager’s role include:

  • Maintaining accountability to the PYEC General Manager;
  • Delivering on PYEC’s RSAS contract with NIAA;
  • Planning, developing, coordinating, implementing, and administering the RSAS program and budget
  • Supervising, coaching and mentoring Anangu Coordinators to lead teams of Anangu employees in the delivery of the RSAS Program.

Essential requirements:

  • Previous relevant experience in a similar role
  • Ability to adapt to changing conditions with a flexible attitude
  • Above all, you will demonstrate resilience, honesty, integrity, diplomacy, and a sense of fairness
  • Current residence in Alice Springs or ability to relocate
  • Ability to travel extensively in the APY Lands
  • A current ‘C’ class driver’s licence and 4WD experience
  • A positive Working With Children Check, and National Criminal History Check

Desirable requirements:

  • Bachelor of Business or Community Services or equivalent tertiary qualification.
  • Strong existing relationships with communities in the APY Lands.
  • Ability to speak Pitjantjatjara language.

KEY SELECTION CRITERIA

  1. Demonstrated experience in successfully planning, developing, implementing, and administering operational programs and budgets.
  2. Demonstrated experience in a management role leading, managing, coaching, mentoring, training, and supporting teams.
  3. Demonstrated experience in, or commitment to Indigenous capacity building through mentoring, training, and development.
  4. Experience and/or knowledge of Aboriginal Culture and communities, and how they operate as well as an understanding of the health and wellbeing issues and the social and organisational environments that affect employees working with vulnerable students and families in remote Aboriginal communities.
