SNAICC – National Voice for our Children is the national peak body representing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, families and the community-controlled organisations that support them.

For more than 40 years, SNAICC has been a leading voice for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and families, advocating for systemic change and driving reform across child protection, early childhood development, family wellbeing and self-determination. Through research, policy, advocacy, sector development and innovation, SNAICC works to ensure Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children grow up strong in culture, connected to family and community, and empowered to thrive.

Governed by a Board of Directors and Council comprising Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander leaders and community-controlled organisations from across Australia, SNAICC plays a critical role in influencing national policy, supporting sector capability and advancing the rights, needs and aspirations of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and families.

About the role

The Manager, People & Culture is a pivotal leadership role responsible for shaping SNAICC's organisational culture, workforce capability and people systems during a period of continued growth and transformation.

Reporting to the Director, People & Operations, you will lead SNAICC's People and Culture function and provide strategic and operational leadership across the full employee lifecycle. Working closely with leaders across the organisation, you will drive workforce planning, recruitment and retention, learning and development, employee relations, wellbeing initiatives and organisational change programs that strengthen engagement, capability and performance.

You will play a key role in developing and implementing people strategies that support SNAICC's long-term priorities while ensuring the organisation remains a culturally safe, high-performing and compliant workplace. This includes providing high-level advice to leaders and executives, strengthening people systems and policies, leading organisational development initiatives and fostering a workplace culture that reflects SNAICC's values and commitment to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and families.

About you

You are an experienced Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander People and Culture professional who is passionate about creating positive workplace cultures and supporting people to thrive.

You bring strong strategic and operational human resources experience, with the ability to lead workforce planning, organisational development, employee relations and change initiatives in a complex environment. You are a trusted advisor who can build strong relationships across all levels of an organisation and provide clear, practical guidance on people matters.

You are an authentic and emotionally intelligent leader who values collaboration, accountability and continuous improvement. Most importantly, you are committed to supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, families and communities through your contribution to a purpose-driven organisation.

Selection Criteria

  1. Demonstrated experience in senior Human Resources or People and Culture leadership roles within a medium-sized or complex organisation.
  2. Proven experience leading workforce planning, organisational development, change management and employee relations initiatives.
  3. Strong knowledge of contemporary People and Culture practices, employment legislation and industrial relations frameworks, including the Fair Work Act 2009.
  4. Demonstrated ability to develop and implement people strategies, policies and systems that improve organisational performance, workforce capability and employee engagement.
  5. Highly developed leadership, coaching and mentoring skills, with experience building high-performing teams and supporting leadership capability.
  6. Exceptional communication, stakeholder engagement and relationship management skills, with the ability to influence and advise leaders at all levels.
  7. Demonstrated understanding of, and commitment to, the rights, aspirations and wellbeing of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, families and communities.
