We are currently seeking expressions of interest for a number of new Non-Executive Directors to the Board in 2026/2027.

The Role

The Board of Directors bears ultimate responsibility for Oxfam Australia achieving its purpose. As a member of the Board, you will have an opportunity to make a meaningful contribution in supporting Oxfam Australia's long-term sustainability, impact and governance. The successful candidate will be appointed to a three-year term and is expected to commit approximately 1.5 days per month to the role.

Key Responsibilities

  • Set the Oxfam Australia’s (OAU) purpose, beliefs and values
  • Review and approve OAU’s strategic plans, operational plans, annual budgets and major initiatives
  • Monitor OAU’s performance against strategies, policies and other criteria set by the Board
  • Ensure the appropriate management of resources to realise the OAU’s purposes
  • Recruit and support the Chief Executive and constructively monitor and assess their performance and that of the Senior Leadership Team
  • Monitor the systems of control; including identification, management and mitigation of risks
  • Monitor compliance with applicable laws and regulations
  • Ensure there are mechanisms for consultation with key stakeholders and continued accountability to them

Skills, Experience and Attributes

  • Proven board or governance experience, with strong understanding of directors’ duties and fiduciary responsibilities (AICD or equivalent highly regarded)
  • Strategic capability with experience contributing to long‑term organisational strategy and performance oversight
  • Experience in risk management and internal control frameworks
  • Financial acumen, including oversight of budgets, financial statements and audits (financial qualifications highly valued)
  • Senior leadership or business management experience, ideally within the not‑for‑profit or international development sector
  • A collaborative, thoughtful leadership style, demonstrating high emotional intelligence, humility and integrity
  • Strong alignment with Oxfam Australia's purpose, vision and values
