We are currently seeking an Executive Lead Finance to join our team.

The Role

As a member of the Executive Leadership Team, you will provide strategic and people-centred leadership to drive sustainable financial outcomes and ensure effective financial management, governance, compliance, and reporting across Oxfam Australia.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop a high-performing, psychologically safe Finance team by driving performance, capability development, continuous improvement, and alignment to organisational goals and service standards.
  • Provide strategic financial leadership across Oxfam Australia, ensuring strong financial management, compliance, forecasting, budgeting, and informed decision-making.
  • Lead treasury, cash flow, investment portfolio, and financial control functions, ensuring accurate reporting, audit readiness, and effective risk management.
  • Act as a trusted finance advisor to the Executive Leadership Team and CEO, delivering financial insights, guidance, and strategic support to drive organisational performance.
  • Lead finance systems, reporting, and compliance functions, ensuring efficient financial operations, accurate statutory reporting, and alignment with organisational strategy and ERP objectives.
  • Oversee procurement, insurance, and governance reporting frameworks, providing high-quality financial reporting, advice, and support to Board committees and key stakeholders.
  • Represent Oxfam Australia on finance, governance, audit, banking, taxation, and investment matters, providing strategic reporting, advice, and support to Board committees and regional forums.
  • Represent Oxfam Australia at Oxfam International finance forums and contribute to strong corporate governance and accountability by ensuring compliance with, and ongoing review of, Oxfam International financial standards.

Desired Skills and Experience

Essential:

  • Degree in business management, finance, economics and accounting that is recognised in Australia
  • Accreditation as a chartered accountant in Australia and excellent knowledge of the Australian financial legal framework
  • Substantial track record of financial leadership in an organisation with an annual operating budget of over $30 million per annum
  • Excellent knowledge of the financial obligations of registered Australian Charities
  • Proven skills in capability development, team leadership, performance management and change management

A little about you

1. Strategic Financial Leadership: Demonstrated ability to lead complex financial operations and provide strategic financial advice that supports organisational sustainability, informed decision-making, and long-term impact.

2. People Leadership and Capability Development: Proven ability to lead, develop and empower high-performing teams through inclusive leadership, coaching and strong performance management while fostering a psychologically safe and accountable working environment.

3. Governance, Risk and Compliance: Strong understanding of governance, financial controls, audit, compliance and regulatory obligations, with the ability to strengthen organisational accountability and manage risk in complex environments. Experience in interactions and reporting at executive and board level is highly desirable.

4. Enterprise Partnership and Influence: Highly developed stakeholder engagement and influencing skills, with the ability to build trusted relationships across executive teams, boards, committees and external partners to drive organisational outcomes.

5. Operational Excellence and Continuous Improvement: Demonstrated ability to improve systems, processes and financial operations through innovation, strategic thinking and a focus on efficiency, quality and continuous improvement.
