Help apartment communities across NSW cut their energy costs

OCN, the national peak body for strata, community title and company title owners and occupiers, is delivering a strata-focused community energy program under the NSW Community Energy Activation Program (CEAP), alongside delivery partner ZapCat.  

We're looking for a Community Engagement Officer to be the human face of the project – building trust with strata committees, owners corporations and residents, and guiding them from awareness through to action on energy-saving upgrades and government rebates. 

What you'll do 

  • Plan and deliver outreach to strata committees, owners corporations and residents across metropolitan, regional and lower socio-economic NSW communities, including priority areas in Western Sydney, Newcastleand Wollongong/Shellharbour
  • Coordinate and facilitate a program of webinars and town halls, and run communities of practice for peer learning and shared resources
  • Work with ZapCat to explain energy technologies and NSW rebate programs – solar, batteries, EV charging, heat pumps and electrification – in plain English
  • Provide independent guidance on strata legislation, by-laws and approval pathways
  • Develop plain-English guides, templates, checklists and case studies
  • Produce newsletters, website and social content, and support media activities
  • Run consumer surveys and keep engagement data and reporting up to date 

What we're looking for 

Essential: 

  • Demonstrated experience in community engagement and relationship management
  • Experience in, or capacity to rapidly develop expertise in, strata legislation, governance and approval processes
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, including digital content and reporting
  • Experience facilitating webinars, workshops, forums or community events
  • Strong organisational and project management skills
  • Ability to communicate complex information in plain English
  • Stakeholder management capability, including working with partners and community leaders
  • Digital engagement and online community management skills
  • Willingness to travel within NSW 

Desirable: 

  • Experience working with strata, community housing or local government
  • Knowledge of strata governance and owners corporation decision-making
  • Knowledge of energy efficiency, electrification or renewable energy, particularly in multi-unit dwellings
  • Familiarity with NSW Government energy rebates and incentive programs
  • Experience engaging culturally and linguistically diverse, lower socio-economic or regional communities
  • Lived or professional experience of strata living
  • Current driver’s licence and vehicle 

The details 

  • Part-time, 0.6 FTE (approximately 22.5 hours per week)
  • Three-year fixed term to 30 April 2029, aligned to the grant
  • Sydney-based, hybrid, with some travel within NSW
  • Indicative rate $45 per hour (employee); contractor arrangements also considered
