About the role 

• Hobart location, with travel within Tasmania. Some domestic travel will be required, particularly to Melbourne 
• Full time (flexible FTE options will be considered) 
• Fixed term until 30 June 2027 with possible extension opportunity 
• $102,303 - $107,362 + 12% super + 17.5% annual leave loading + 5 additional days health/wellbeing leave 

This role will advance a 5-year partnership between Our Watch and the Tasmanian Government to inform policy development and build sector and government capability relating to the primary prevention of gender-based violence in Tasmania.  

The Our Watch Senior Advisor, Tasmania, located in Hobart reports to the Manager, Prevention Strategy and Policy Development, Our Watch, and works closely with the, Prevention of Family and Sexual Violence team and various Tasmanian Government agencies 
The partnership includes a range of activities, led by the Senior Advisor, including stakeholder and policy engagement and advice, identifying opportunities to build primary prevention in Tasmania, linking prevention work across diverse settings, and providing ongoing policy advice to the Tasmanian Government.  

The role will continue this work to consolidate and enhance Tasmania’s primary prevention capacity with a focus on policy advice and development. 

About you 

The successful candidate will have: 

• Tertiary qualifications in social or political science, public policy, law, gender studies, or other relevant areas; or equivalent experience 
• Experience in a government, government relations, advisory, or non-government public policy role (ideally in relation to gender equality, prevention of violence against women, women’s policy and/or another relevant area) 
• Strong understanding of the Tasmanian policy and political landscape, particularly regarding the prevention of violence against women and/or gender equality (desirable) 
• Demonstrated skills in policy development and writing, including critical thinking, research and analysis and experience drafting policy briefs, submissions, grant reports, and similar documents 
• Demonstrated project planning and management skills, with the ability to forward plan and balance both planned and unexpected and urgent tasks. 
• Excellent stakeholder relationship skills, with the proven ability to facilitate collaboration between and consult with a wide range of relevant stakeholders, including government stakeholders   
• Strong written communication skills, with the ability to turn complex ideas into clear, accessible guidance for diverse audiences, including decision-makers
