  • Salary Classification: Our Watch [Band 5, Level 1] (commencing at $91,536.00 - $95,843.00) plus superannuation and 17.5% annual leave loading. Secondment arrangements are strongly encouraged

Position overview:

Working within the Practice Leadership directorate, this position will contribute to delivering on the Practice Leadership operational plan, with specific focus on sports engagement. The role will provide practice expertise and guidance to partner organisations as they take action to promote gender equality within their organisations and among their stakeholders. The role will also support the development and delivery of high-quality training, tools and resources to support prevention practice within the sports setting across Australia; including testing and refining the Equality and Respect in Sport framework. The role will also be responsible for building relationships and identifying opportunities with sporting organisations and contributing to the development of strategy for future work in the sports setting and as part of Our Watch’s National Leadership Role.

You will have demonstrated policy and practice expertise in the prevention of violence against women as well as experience working with sporting organisations. This will include significant project development and project management experience, training and facilitation, strong stakeholder engagement and partnership skills, and familiarity with action research methodologies and evidence-based resource development.

This role presents a great opportunity for the right person to grow and expand within the emerging prevention sector.

Responsibilities and accountabilities:

As part of the Practice Leadership team you will support in the delivery of the Our Watch operation plan including but not limited to:

  • Build the evidence base in understanding drivers of all types of violence against all women in Australia
  • Translate evidence into accessible and effective social marketing campaigns, practice and policy solutions
  • Build the evidence through developing, piloting and evaluating long term approaches to change to prevent violence against all women
  • Increase the skill, number and coordination of people preventing violence against all women across all settings
  • Integrate our work into Australian systems, institutions, structures to continuously address the drivers of violence against all women
  • Connect with Australians where they live, rest, work and play and give them the confidence, motivation and tools to drive change
  • Create structures for leadership and drive investment across industries, jurisdictions and governments to drive prevention and cultural change

Undertake a range of tasks including but not limited to:

  • Develop and implement strategy and effectively engage the sport setting, may include national sports organisations and/or elite clubs, to prevent violence against women
  • Provide expertise and technical support to key sporting stakeholders and governments
  • Foster and manage productive partnerships with key stakeholders, including National Sporting Organisations and key stakeholders
  • Supporting practice reflection and continuous improvement and work with the Our Watch Policy and Evaluation team to ensure robust project evaluation in line with agreed action research methods, indicators and sources of data
  • Attend and report to, various project advisory or governance meetings as appropriate

Support practice direction and advice on Our Watch work including:

  • Fostering an ‘evidence-based and evidence-building’ culture, advising on best and emerging practice for Our Watch’s work
  • Inform Our Watch’s public positioning relating to prevention practice

Contribute to building Our Watch as a trusted and expert national organisation by:

  • Working across roles and functions to support the advancement of the work of the organisation
  • Adding to Our Watch OHS and continuous quality improvement activity
  • Representing Our Watch at relevant meetings and events
  • Undertaking other duties as required from time to time
