Odyssey House Victoria trading as Odyssey Victoria is a leading provider of alcohol and other drug treatment, training and support services. For over 45 years, Odyssey Victoria has delivered evidence-based services that support individuals, families and communities to rebuild lives affected by addiction.

Following a period of sustained impact and organisational growth, Odyssey Victoria is
seeking a highly skilled and committed individual to join its Board as a voluntary, nonexecutive Director, with the expectation that the successful candidate will assume the role of Treasurer and Chair of the Finance & Risk Committee.

About the Role

The Board is responsible for the overall governance, strategic direction and financial sustainability of Odyssey Victoria. Directors work collaboratively to ensure the organisation continues to deliver high-quality, person-centred services and maintains strong accountability to its stakeholders.

This appointment is being made to replace the retiring Board Director and Chair of the Finance & Risk Committee, a critical leadership role supporting the Board’s oversight of financial stewardship and risk management. All Directors are expected to actively contribute to Board discussions and serve on at least one committee.

Finance & Risk Committee Chair – Key Responsibilities

  • Providing leadership of the Finance & Risk Committee, including input into the agenda and facilitating effective meetings.
  • Oversight of financial performance, sustainability and reporting.
  • Oversight of budgeting, forecasting and capital management.
  • Oversight of audit (internal and external) processes.
  • Oversight of enterprise risk management framework and compliance obligations.
  • Ensuring robust financial controls and governance frameworks are in place.
  • Advising the Board on financial and risk implications of strategic decisions.
  • Acting as a key interface between the Board, management, and external auditors.

Candidate Profile

The Board is seeking a Director with strong credentials in finance, audit, or risk governance, and the capability to step into a committee chair role.

Experience

Essential:

  • Senior executive or board-level experience in finance, accounting, audit, or risk
  • Demonstrated experience in financial oversight at a governance level
  • Experience serving on or chairing a Finance, Audit and/or Risk Committee
  • Understanding of governance in not-for-profit or regulated environments

Desirable:

  • Experience in health, social services, or community sectors
  • Knowledge of government-funded environments
  • AICD (GAICD) or equivalent governance qualification
