NPY Women's Council (NPYWC) is an Anangu-led organisation governed by women's law, authority and culture. We deliver health, social and cultural services across the Ngaanyatjarra, Pitjantjatjara and Yankunytjatjara (NPY) region and are committed to strengthening communities through culturally responsive, trauma-informed practice.

We are seeking a compassionate and motivated Child Nutrition Development Officer (Town Based) to join our Child and Family Wellbeing Service.

This is an exciting opportunity to support children aged 0–5 years and their families by promoting healthy nutrition, delivering practical family support and working collaboratively with health services and community partners to improve child wellbeing.

About the Role

Reporting to the Nutrition Team Leader, you will provide nutrition and family support to children and families visiting or staying in Alice Springs from remote NPY communities.

Working alongside the Child Nutrition Program team, you'll provide case management, facilitate nutrition and health promotion activities, support families to attend medical appointments, and help create a welcoming and engaging environment for children and carers.

This position is primarily based in Alice Springs with travel to Kiwirrkurra approximately every six weeks, and occasional travel to other remote communities as required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide case management and practical support to families with young children visiting Alice Springs.
  • Deliver nutrition education, cooking workshops and health promotion activities.
  • Support families to attend medical appointments and access local services.
  • Build strong relationships with hospitals, health providers and community organisations.
  • Maintain accurate client records, case notes and program reporting.
  • Coordinate and maintain nutritious food supplies, children's resources and workshop materials.
  • Ensure the Child and Family Wellbeing kitchen and play areas remain welcoming, safe and well-equipped.
  • Contribute to the development of nutrition resources and community education initiatives.
  • Travel to remote communities to support program delivery when required.

About You

You are passionate about improving the health and wellbeing of children and families and enjoy working collaboratively in a culturally responsive environment.

You will bring:

  • Experience in health, nutrition, community services, early childhood, education or a related field.
  • Experience supporting children, families or communities through health or wellbeing programs.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills.
  • The ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • An understanding of, or willingness to learn about, working with Aboriginal communities in a culturally safe and respectful way.
  • A relevant qualification in nutrition, health sciences, community services, education or a related discipline, or equivalent demonstrated experience.
