Opportunity to support the commissioning of mental health, suicide prevention and related programs across our North West Melbourne region.

The Program Officer, Commissioning will collaborate closely with teams in the Service Development and Reform Directorate to ensure activities are in line with strategic goals and advance person-centered care. They will also work closely with colleagues, consumers, and stakeholders to respond to community needs and experiences, fostering ongoing improvement and support for services.

We are North Western Melbourne Primary Health Network (NWMPHN), Victoria's largest independent, locally governed and run, not-for-profit PHN, dedicated to improving primary health care in our community.

What are PHNs?

PHNs have been established with two key objectives:

  • Increasing the efficiency and effectiveness of services for community members, particularly those at risk of poor health outcomes
  • Improving coordination of care to ensure people receive the right care in the right place, at the right time

A typical week may include:

  • Collaborating with teams to commission sustainable services aligned with person-centred care principles.
  • Implementing project management approaches to ensure timely delivery of work plans and priorities.
  • Coordinating stakeholder meetings and activities to support effective operations.
  • Collecting and reporting data to drive assurance and insight into service delivery.
  • Engaging with key stakeholders to build collaborative partnerships and inform continuous improvement efforts.

We are looking for someone who has:

  • Tertiary qualifications in social work, community development, public health or a relevant discipline and/or extensive relevant experience and knowledge within the mental health, suicide prevention, AOD, or psychosocial services system
  • Demonstrated knowledge, understanding and or direct experience in service systems that support people experiencing impacts of suicide, mental health concerns or health related issues
  • Interest in developing contract management and performance monitoring knowledge and skills (of commissioned and/ or procured services)
  • Developing and implementing ways of working that support reliable and on-time delivery of projects and activities, including monitoring of key milestones
  • High-level project planning, administrative and problem-solving skills
  • Experience building effective relationships and working collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to deliver shared outcomes
  • Communicating with influence, including use of written, verbal, presentation and negotiation skills
