The Organisation

Early Childhood Management Services (ECMS) has been fostering lifelong learning for children, families and communities across Melbourne for 25 years. As a not-for-profit social enterprise and with a team of 850 ECMS deliver services that exceed national quality standards to over 6,000 children and their families operating 63 early childhood education centres, (ECEC) services across 21 municipalities in the Greater Melbourne area.

Every ECMS kindergarten and childcare centre is designed to reflect the needs of its local community and families, ensuring that children thrive in life.

The Role

Reporting to the CEO, and as a member of the Executive Leadership Team, the Director of ECE is jointly accountable to develop and deliver the strategy of the organisation.

You will lead the organisational approach to achieve improved practice, sustainable operations and outcomes for children in alignment with the organisations pedagogical principles. This role is instrumental in an ambitious change agenda setting up the cultural, financial and operational sustainability that will set up ECMS for future impact.

Now is an ideal time to influence the shape of the strategy of the organisation due to the level of optimism and momentum behind the change agendas.

Specifically you will be responsible for:

  • Strategic, operational and educational leadership across all of ECMS' services
  • Leading teams to accomplish high-quality practice delivery, ensuring compliance & funding obligations
  • Maintaining partnerships across local and state government, universities & training providers

Skills Required

In addition to a successful career in the early years sector, including senior leadership experience, you will have demonstrated experience in the development and implementation of high quality education practises and change management programs in multi-site environments.

You can exhibit:

  • Experience developing highly functional teams, translating values into tangible behaviours
  • Agility in prioritising resourcing and being creative with solutions whilst working at scale
  • A level of comfort in tension between operational efficiency and best practice
  • Ability to deliver multiple priorities; experience planning & implementing change initiatives
  • Adaptable communication and stakeholder engagement skills, transferable to all levels
