The Organisation

Australia for UNHCR is the UN Refugee Agency’s national partner in Australia, raising awareness and funds to support UNHCR’s global emergency response to humanitarian crises. Australia for UNHCR is a member of the Australian Council for International Development (ACFID), the peak body representing Australian NGO’s working in the field of international aid and development.

In 2020 Australia for UNHCR raised $33m from individual donors, philanthropists and corporates leading to direct impact on the ground delivering emergency support such as shelter, protection, clean water, food and medicines. Australia for UNHCR also directly funds international projects that support longer-term care such as building schools, running livelihood programs and providing healthcare.

The Role

Reporting to the National Director you will provide leadership across human resources, finance, international programs, information technology and donor care. You will be responsible for implementation of a number of critical functions for the organisation, such as board secretariat, risk management, property and facilities management, contracts and legal, and WHS.

In this hands on role, you will provide strategic oversight and ensure operational excellence with a commercial and innovative lens to develop, implement and improve systems and infrastructure, including the expansion of funding opportunities. Additionally you’ll:

  • Advise and lead change management activities to prepare for DFAT accreditation
  • Manage a multi-disciplinary team, building strategic capacity and skills
  • Promote a cross organisational working culture with an adaptive, entrepreneurial emphasis

Skills Required

You are currently operating at a senior level in a similar operational or consulting role, leading or advising charities, social enterprises or like-minded corporates and institutions to deliver program outcomes whilst driving business success.

You’re a confident leader and stakeholder manager and you bring high level relational skills, communicating comfortably with a diverse demographic. You possess a genuine interest in employee wellbeing and development, promote a positive and ethical working environment, and have a track record of success in:

  • Managing a wide range of projects and internal functions across core business operations
  • Influencing process improvement and technology enhancements
  • Adding value and sustainability to business and financial practices and models
  • Identifying and diversifying organisational opportunities
