About the role

Wellways has a number of programs providing services to the East and Northwest Region of Melbourne consisting of; Prevention & Recovery Services (PARCS); Family Services; Client Directed Services and a range of Peer Facilitated Education Programs; Pathways to Home and the Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander NDIS Access project.

Given the regions diverse population we have created a community worker role to support grassroots mental health support and community participation for people in priority populations including ATSI, CALD and LGBTIQ community members.

This role will work in partnership with local organisations and the staff/co-ordinator and volunteers who deliver services to priority populations through the provision of support and capacity building.

Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Work with services providers of identified priority populations to develop an activity plan that responds to community need
  • Support a training program for the delivery of capacity building initiatives
  • Where required, develop and coordinate additional initiatives to meet the needs of community members

Skills & Experience

  • Tertiary qualification in a community development/relevant area or equivalent lived or professional experience
  • Ability and commitment to work with a variety of different stakeholders within the healthcare sector
  • Prior experience working within the Mental Health industry or community based organisation (desirable)
  • Ability to advocate on behalf of consumers for service improvement and/or ability to engage with others involved in this work (desirable)
