About the Role 

We currently have a vacancy in our Family Team. The Community Development Worker will work closely with children, young people, families, service providers and community groups. You will contribute to building and implementing programs that connect and make accessible to all members of the community. The position is funded under the Targeted Earlier Intervention (TEI) program which delivers flexible, early intervention support to children, young people, families, and communities experiencing or at risk of vulnerability.

The position provides an exciting opportunity for working collaboratively with diverse communities and stakeholders in the planning, developing, implementing, and evaluating a variety of TEI funded community programs.  

The role of the Community Development Worker is responsible for:

  • Engaging with communities in the Inner West, Burwood, Strathfield, Canada Bay, Rhodes Peninsula areas through program activities, information, and education sessions
  • Delivering projects and programs in accordance with TEI program delivery that promotes community engagement, social inclusion, and participation
  • Planning and implementation of group-based activities and initiatives in response to local needs that build the capability and resilience of families, children, young people within their communities
  • Working with local services, communities and interagency in the planning and implementing of Events and Expos
  • Attending and participating in relevant interagency and network meetings
  • Identifying and apply for community grants including CDSE, Council grants and other financial opportunities that support local events, projects, and programs
  • Maintaining program data and reporting as required by the organisation
  • Providing monthly and accurate program reports to immediate supervisor and Family Team Manager

Essential Selection Criteria

  • Relevant tertiary qualification diploma in community services, social work, community development or a similar field and experience
  • Experience and knowledge in community development when working within communities to build capacity, an understanding of evidence informed and outcome focused service delivery
  • Experience delivering group-based activities  
  • Demonstrate understanding and experience of working in partnership with diverse communities and stakeholders both government and non-government services 
  • Demonstrate working with marginalised and disadvantaged communities
  • Demonstrate ability to meet competing work priorities and timeframes 
  • Demonstrated ability to work within a team environment and contribute to the ongoing development of the program

Desirable Selection Criteria

  • Applicants of Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander descent highly desirable; or ability to speak Vietnamese
  • Current driver’s license and access to own vehicle
