The Families & Young People Services team currently have a vacancy for a Coordinator to join Mercy Community on a permanent full-time basis based in our Ipswich office.

The Coordinator will be responsible for providing and guiding other staff to provide quality service delivery to children, young people and families within Connected Families – an Intensive Family Support Service.

The role…

As part of a close team, you will provide coordination and oversight of every phase of casework for families from the point of referral to exit with a view to supporting highly vulnerable families to become stronger, capable and more resilient and improving overall wellbeing. The Coordinator is responsible for supervising staff including Caseworkers and Family Support Workers in the Connected Families team.

To be eligible for this position you will require (Key Selection Criteria):

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in Social Work, Social Science, Psychology or related discipline
  • A well-developed professional therapeutic framework for working with children and young people, their families, extended families, community and other key stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in supervising and developing staff working with complex needs families.
  • Demonstrated experience and skills in, and conceptual framework for, conducting risk assessments and delivering support, and case management for families experiencing trauma and D&FV.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the issues affecting women and children experiencing domestic and family violence.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan and use communication effectively across a variety of contexts to bring about change (with a focus on motivation) and to share information meaningfully. Including strategies for negotiating strong differences of opinion within the workgroup (team) and in family and stakeholder relations.
  • Demonstrated ability to use systems (including software), work-flow planning and resources effectively to track progress and meet deadlines.
  • A Queensland Provisional Green or above Drivers’ Licence, ability to obtain positive notice in the Working with Children Check (Blue Card), positive Police Check and any other legislatively required personal history screening as required
  • Evidence of current vaccination against whooping cough or willingness to obtain prior to commencement, unless applicable exemption provided as per the relevant Mercy Community procedure

It is also beneficial to have:

  • Experience in strengths-based casework with complex families.
  • Knowledge of child health & development as well as a broad knowledge of a range of safe parenting practices.
  • Adult education skills.
  • A working knowledge of the Domestic & Family Violence Protection Act 1989 and a knowledge of related court and legislative proceedings as well as the Practice Standards for Working with Women Affected by Domestic & Family Violence.
  • Completed the accredited ‘Course in Responding to Domestic and Family Violence’ (30949QLD)
  • Knowledge and skills to ensure the provision of culturally, gender and age appropriate services to clients.

This position offers a competitive remuneration package of $86,055.00 - $89,868.00 gross per annum in line with level 6 of our Enterprise Agreement.
