About MHCC ACT

The Mental Health Community Coalition ACT (MHCC ACT) is the peak body for community-managed mental health services in the ACT. We are the leading voice for a mental health system that supports people to live well, participate fully and experience belonging within their communities. Working closely with service providers, people with lived and living experience, consumers, carers, government and sector partners, we strengthen the capability, sustainability and impact of the community mental health sector and advocate for a more responsive and effective mental health system.

About the Role

The Sector Development Manager is a senior leadership position responsible for driving strategic programs and initiatives that strengthen the capability, collaboration and impact of the ACT community mental health sector. Reporting to the Executive Director, this role leads the development, implementation and evaluation of sector development activities, manages key stakeholder relationships, oversees funded programs and projects, and translates evidence, feedback and lived experience into practical initiatives that improve outcomes across the mental health system. The role offers significant autonomy and the opportunity to influence sector-wide change while working closely with MHCC ACT members and partners.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain strategic relationships with mental health organisations, government agencies, consumers, carers and sector partners.
  • Promote lived and living experience leadership and co-design approaches.
  • Monitor, evaluate and report on program outcomes and impact.
  • Prepare high-quality reports, briefings, recommendations and resources.
  • Contribute to organisational planning, quality improvement and strategic development.
  • Manage program resources, reporting obligations and compliance requirements.
  • Represent MHCC ACT in sector forums, networks and partnerships.

Selection Criteria

To be successful in this role you will demonstrate:

  1. Extensive experience in program management, community services, mental health, health or a related sector.
  2. Demonstrated experience designing, implementing, managing and evaluating complex programs and projects.
  3. Strong understanding of community-managed mental health services, sector development and capacity building.
  4. Highly developed stakeholder engagement, relationship management and partnership-building skills.
  5. Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities, exercise sound judgement and deliver high-quality outcomes.
  6. Excellent written communication skills, including the preparation of reports, briefing papers, proposals and organisational resources.
  7. Experience applying co-design approaches and incorporating lived and living experience perspectives into program design and delivery.
  8. Demonstrated ability to work autonomously, provide strategic advice and contribute to organisational leadership and continuous improvement.
