The Opportunity

The Community Capacity team is seeking a Diversity & Intercultural Project Officer to develop and deliver collaborative community development and capacity building initiatives, in alignment with relevant Council strategies. The successful candidate will work collaboratively to plan, implement and evaluate a range of activities that respond to the self-identified needs of diverse communities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Facilitate opportunities to enable cultural expression, transmission, recognition and celebration between generations and groups
  • Support relevant social research and community engagement processes to increase understanding of community needs, challenges and aspirations
  • Develop and maintain partnerships with internal and external stakeholders to identify and respond to emerging trends and strengthen the culturally specific service response in Melton
  • Facilitate connections to, and awareness of, the community services sector amongst culturally and linguistically diverse communities.

About you

To be successful in this role you must have:

  • Sound knowledge of engaging respectfully and empathetically with members of identified communities to develop and deliver collaborative community development and capacity building initiatives, in alignment with relevant Council strategies
  • Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills, the capacity to strengthen the cohort-specific service response in Melton; facilitate connections to, and awareness of, the community services sector amongst diverse communities.
  • Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with and between relevant communities, service providers, educational institutions and other relevant bodies to facilitate opportunities to enable expression, transmission, recognition and celebration between generations and diverse groups.
  • Passionate about working collaboratively to plan, implement and evaluate a range of activities that respond to the self-identified needs of diverse communities
  • A relevant tertiary qualification is desirable, with proven delivery of community development projects is essential.
