Context

Multicultural Centre for Women’s Health (MCWH) is a national, community-based organisation which is led by and for women from migrant and refugee backgrounds. We advocate and educate to strengthen the health, safety and leadership of migrant and refugee women, non-binary, and gender diverse people in Australia.

MCWH works together with migrant and refugee women, community organisations, health practitioners, employers, communities, and governments to build and share knowledge, achieve equity and improve health and wellbeing for migrant and refugee women, non-binary and gender diverse people.

Position Objectives

MCWH’s vision is for migrant and refugee women, non-binary, and gender diverse people to be free from all forms of discrimination, to have autonomy over their lives, and experience health equity, well-being, and safety in society.

Working within a team of other capacity building professionals, the Capacity Building Officer will lead a suite of capacity building projects and activities specific to meet MCWH’s strategic objectives in relation to the prevention of Female Genital Mutilation/Cutting (FGM/C).

Organisational Relationships

Internal

The Capacity Building Officer (FGM/C) reports directly to the Training and Capacity Building Manager and is part of the Training and Capacity Building Department in the Programs Pillar.

External

Victorian Women’s Health Services; relevant federal, state, and local government departments; funding bodies; national, state and regional research; service delivery and policy bodies; media; community organisations; training clients; migrant and refugee women, non-binary, and gender diverse people.

Key Responsibilities

Program and Project Delivery

  • Lead the coordination, design, development, and implementation of capacity building project and program activities using best practice and fit-for-purpose project management approaches.
  • Provide strategic guidance and support to project partners and stakeholders to meet program and project deliverables.
  • Drive and facilitate effective communication of project progress among MCWH staff and project partners.
  • Conduct evaluation and monitoring activities, including working with other MCWH staff to monitor and implement project evaluation plans.
  • Represent MCWH and present project findings alongside MCWH key messages on roundtables, consultations, working groups and conferences as required.

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Engage and collaborate strategically with partners and key stakeholders to build engagement with MCWH capacity building project and program activities.

General Responsibilities

  • Represent MCWH as externally required.
  • Prepare project reports as required.
  • Participate in planning, development, and evaluation of the organisation.
  • Support the implementation of organisational activities organised by MCWH working groups, including responding to reasonable requests, training opportunities and surveys organised by MCWH working groups.
  • Develop workplan and participate in regular performance appraisals.
  • Other duties consistent with the role and as negotiated with the Training and Capacity Building Manager.

Selection Criteria

Essential

Technical Requirements & Qualifications

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in public health, health promotion, project management, related discipline and/or significant experience working in the field.
  • Experience or transferrable skills to collaboratively work with communities affected by FGM/C.
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in a program and/or project management role.
  • Demonstrated project management skills with the ability to implement projects and meet deliverables in accordance with agreed standards and timeframes.
  • Demonstrated experience in stakeholder engagement with a range of organisations and stakeholders of varying backgrounds.
  • High-level computer literacy and proficiency.
  • Highly developed understanding and knowledge of migrant and refugee women’s, gender diverse and non-binary people’s health from a feminist, intersectional perspective.

Special Requirements

  • Some evening or weekend work may be required from time to time.
  • MCWH operates according to a hybrid home/office working model.

Salary & Conditions

  • SCHADS Award Level 6 pay point 1-3 ($102500 to $107500 per annum), depending on skills and experience.
  • Salary packaging is available, with a benefit of up to $15,900 per annum
  • Additional leave entitlements:
  • 5 weeks annual leave for up to 5 years’ service and 6 weeks thereafter
  • 3 days ex-gratia leave between Christmas and New Years Day
  • Additional personal leave entitlements

Period of Appointment

This is a full time (38 hours per week) 2-year fixed-term appointment.
