About the role:

In this rewarding role, as a Residential Care Worker you will work collaboratively to provide a high standard of physical and emotional care to young people living within our homes. By utilising your passion and commitment, you will interact therapeutically and positively with the young people, spending quality time with them, cooking meals, undertaking household duties and participating in daily general duties. In this position, you will also provide information to other professionals regarding the young people, as well as completing reports, updating records and other compliance requirements.

We are currently seeking individuals to join our motivated Residential Out of Home Care teams in multiple capacities. We have roles available in casual, part-time and full-time capacities. We are seeking candidates to work in our Southern Region homes in the following suburbs:

  • Cranbourne
  • Frankston
  • Baxter

Our care homes operate on a 24/7 basis. As a result, successful applicants must be willing to work in the evenings, overnights, weekends and public holidays.

About you:

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • A Certificate IV in Child, Youth and Family Intervention (Residential and out of home care); or have a recognised qualification, plus completion of a short ‘top-up’ skills course, ensuring a baseline of core skills and knowledge for all residential care workers state-wide
  • A commitment towards the principles and practice of quality care in residential settings for the most vulnerable and disadvantaged young people, and to promote autonomy and self-determination for clients
  • Demonstrated understanding of, and respect for, cultural and linguistic diversity (CALD), including cultural safety for children from CALD backgrounds
  • Excellent communication skills, including abilities in engaging well with young people and working collaboratively with other staff and professionals
  • Prior youth work or residential care work experience is preferred, but not essential

You must:

  • Adhere to all MacKillop policies and procedures, including our Code of Conduct, Statement of Confidentiality, etc.
  • Be available to work on a flexible basis, including evenings, overnights, weekends and public holidays
  • Hold a current and valid employee type, Working with Children’s Check (WWCC)
  • Hold a current and valid Victorian driver’s license
  • Complete or satisfy the Department of Health and Human Services’ (DHHS) minimum mandatory qualification of a Certificate IV in Child, Youth and Family Intervention (Residential and Out of Home Care). If you hold a similar or relevant qualification, you may still be required to complete top up units to meet this requirement
  • Attend a total of 2 weeks of mandatory induction training
