ABOUT US:

Leichhardt Women’s Community Health Centre (LWCHC) provides health care, counselling and health education to women and girls living in Sydney’s inner west, inner city and southwestern suburbs. LWCHC operates from the values of equitable healthcare, trauma informed practice and a feminist framework.

Many of our services are funded through Sydney Local Health District, NSW Health and focus on women who are currently experiencing disadvantage; however some services are accessible to a wider range of women.

ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY:

LWCHC are excited to announce we are looking for a female* practitioner who can fill the role of Generalist Counsellor and Women Partners of Men Who Have Sex with Men Counsellor two days a week on a permanent part time basis.

LWCHC provide assessments, referral pathways and counselling support for women from diverse age groups, cultural backgrounds, and women who experience social and financial disadvantage. Our aim is to improve the health and wellbeing of women experiencing depression, anxiety, relationship issues, domestic and family violence (DFV), grief and loss and many other issues women face today.

LWCHC also provide counselling and facilitate support groups for the Women Partners of Men who Have Sex with Men Service. This is an NSW Health funded service providing counselling support, which also involves increasing client’s awareness of STI’s including HIV, and strategies for safe sex.

LWCHC are looking for a counsellor who can support clients in both services part time two days a week on Mondays, Thursdays or Fridays.

ABOUT YOU:

A Counsellor, Psychologist or Social Worker with:

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in either Counselling, Psychology or Social Work.
  • Registration or eligible for registration with relevant professional body (ACA, PACFA, APHRA, AASW).

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:

  • At least 5 years’ experience working with women who have experienced Domestic and Family Violence and/or family/relationship issues, mental health including depression/or anxiety, trauma including childhood/or sexual abuse.
  • A value led, empathetic and compassionate way of engaging with clients and team members.
  • Experience facilitating therapeutic support and psychoeducation groups.
  • Demonstrated ability to engage and work with LGBTIQA+, First Nations, Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD), ages, abilities and disabilities.
  • Knowledge of sexuality and identity issues.
  • Knowledge of STI’s including HIV.
  • Capacity to reflect on your own work and actively participate in supervision.
  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills and proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office.
