About the role

Our Community Development program is a passionate team of professionals dedicated to working in partnership with community to deliver initiatives that build a sense of belonging and collective wellbeing.

We are looking for a First Nations Community Development Officer to join our growing team. The First Nations Community Development Officer will use strong leadership and facilitation skills to create meaningful partnerships with local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander individuals, groups and organisations to co-create solutions to community challenges and opportunities.

What we’re looking for:

  • Extensive experience building and maintaining professional and productive working relationships with a variety of stakeholders including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Elders and community leaders, organisations and residents, as well as senior leaders in government.
  • Experience in community development and achieving outcomes with and for the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community within a government context.
  • Ability to facilitate multi-stakeholder groups to identify community needs and create and drive shared solutions.
  • Capable of navigating government processes to progress the aspirations of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community.
  • An excellent communicator who can adapt their communication style to suit different audiences.
  • Ability to work independently, make decisions and manage multiple tasks at a time.

Role requirements:

  • The incumbent must be of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent as a genuine occupational requirement in accordance with section 8(1) of the Racial Discrimination Act 1975 (Cth) and s 25 and s 105 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991 (Qld). Applicants must supply a letter of Aboriginality signed under the common seal from a recognised incorporated Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander Community organisation.
  • It is essential that the incumbent has flexibility to work outside of normal Council business hours.
  • Relevant tertiary qualification in Community Development, Human Services or Social Services or extensive relevant experience is essential.
  • Possession of a current "C" class driver's licence.
  • Ability to successfully pass all background related checks.

What we offer

  • Full-time hours over a 9-day (72.5hr) fortnight – that’s an extra 22 days off each year!
