We are recruiting experienced and dedicated workers to join our team, so that we can support people from culturally diverse and mainstream backgrounds, who have experienced institutional child sexual abuse, to access support from the Scheme.

Loddon Campaspe Multicultural Services (LCMS) is the Ethnic Community Council for the Loddon Campaspe Region and a leading independent organisation in North Central Victoria. LCMS works with newly arrived migrants and refugees and established culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) people, families and communities to support them as they build their life in regional Victoria.

Our focus is to develop stronger communities, support other service providers and influence decision makers at local, state and national levels.

position summary

The Redress Advocate is part of a highly skilled team, providing person-centred, trauma-informed practice and support to survivors of institutional child sexual abuse ('National Redress Support Services'), with a focus on people with multicultural backgrounds. Your extensive experience in providing therapeutic support and case management will see you succeed in this exciting role. With your knowledge of self-care and self-awareness, you will be supported within a safe environment that includes regular clinical supervision and peer debriefing. Your caring and compassionate nature will see you thrive in this position.

The role may include regional outreach, with possible overnight stays, to ensure accessibility.

The Redress Advocate will, in collaboration with and under the general direction of the Team Leader, provide advocacy, conduct research, stakeholder and community engagement in multicultural and other communities to support people who face barriers accessing the National Redress Scheme. The Redress Advocate will also provide information, support, assisted referrals, and individual advocacy as required.

The successful candidate will have a demonstrated understanding of the impact on individuals and their families of sexual abuse and the skills required in working therapeutically with these individuals. They will also demonstrate an understanding of cross-cultural issues in multicultural, Indigenous and Anglo-Caucasian communities in providing services to individuals, families and communities who have experienced sexual abuse.

The service will offer face-to-face delivery, phone and online assistance based in LCMS’ Bendigo office. The role will require some travel to meet with clients in the community or residential settings, as well as travelling to relevant stake holders to give information sessions.

KEY SELECTION CRITERIA

Essential:

  1. A tertiary qualification in Social Work, Psychology and/or Behavioural or Social Science, Counselling, or equivalent industry experience.
  2. Proven experience in:
    1. the provision of clinical support and case management using a trauma informed approach
    2. working with clients who have complex needs, in particular clients who have experienced childhood and/or sexual trauma
    3. making supportive and warm referrals and links to community supports
  3. Clear and accurate awareness and understanding of the National Redress Scheme (https://www.nationalredress.gov.au/)
  4. Understanding of empowerment and capacity building frameworks
  5. Excellent interpersonal skills, including ability to independently represent LCMS at meetings, events, and networking opportunities, in particular within the multicultural community space
  6. Ability to speak publicly and give presentations and information/ education sessions to relevant stakeholders.

Desirable:

  • Degree qualifications in these areas is desirable
  • Hold a full driver’s licence
  • From a culturally and linguistically diverse background
  • Ability to speak a community language
  • Demonstrated experience in writing documents against legislation, rules, and regulations.
