Multicultural Services is a membership-based organisation and the peak body for refugee and migrant groups in Central Victoria. By focusing on people’s strengths, we are able to develop stronger communities, support other service providers and influence decision-makers at local, state and national levels.

This is an exciting position within the Local Jobs Programs area. The primary role of the Community Development Worker - Bilingual Support is to deliver targeted and individual bilingual support to participants of the Childcare Taster Program to support them to understand the assessment of the Units of Competency taught at Bendigo TAFE for the Cert III in Childcare. It is expected that this position will also provide bilingual and bicultural support across the organisation.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Key Objectives

  • Engage with newly arrived communities who are undertaking the Childcare Taster Program
  • Provide bilingual support
  • Provide follow-up support as needed to participants of the Taster in Early Childhood Program

Service Delivery

  • Engage with all multicultural communities, settled and emerging who are looking for study opportunities or want to engage in LCMS Employment Pathways Program
  • Provide bilingual and bicultural support to other program staff and external organisations as needed
  • Provide leads and assistance to all LCMS programs
  • Any other duties, as directed.

  • Participate in training as agreed between supervisor and employee
  • Work from a culturally sensitive, community development framework
  • Develop and sustain professional networks
  • Participate in regular supervision
  • Participate in organisational meetings and activities
  • Work collaboratively across the organisation to meet community needs
  • Undertake other duties as required

KEY SELECTION CRITERIA

Essential

  1. Willingness to undertake a paid NAATI Certification
  2. Ability to speak one of the community languages (Karen, Dinka, Hazaraghi) fluently
  3. Experience in community work, either paid or as a volunteer
  4. Good spoken and written English
  5. Computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office suite of programs
  6. Understanding of, and experience in, working with newly arrived communities
  7. Understanding of, and experience in, working from empowerment and capacity building frameworks

Desirable

  1. Certificate IV in Community Services or higher qualification, or willingness to undertake study in own time whilst employed with LCMS.
