About Disability Justice Australia Inc (DJA)
- Disability Justice Australia Inc (DJA) is a well-known Not for Profit cross-disability national organisation with its office in Preston, Melbourne. We are registered with ASIC as Registrable Australian Body (ARBN: 629-441-078) under the Corporations Act (2001) and report annually to the Australian Charities Not for Profit Commission (ACNC).

- The Board is seeking to appoint Board Members to fill Casual Vacancies to support governance at a time of national expansion of DJA and our development of a number of Social Enterprises. As a result, we are looking to maintain and further enhance the mix of skills and diversity within the Board consistent with our 300+ members from all states and territories in Australia..
- As a DJA Board member, you will join a team responsible for the governance of DJA and overseeing our new 2025-2030 Strategic Plan which is currently under development.
- You will assist in ensuring our statutory and legal obligations are met, approving, and monitoring, the annual budget and monitoring the performance of the organisation and working closely with the CEO.
- This position is a unique opportunity for you to make a valuable contribution to the governance and national expansion of DJA regardless of which state or territory you live in.
About you, as a DJA Board Member
Essential
- Lived experience as a person with disability and over 18 years old
- Previous experience in governance as a director or member of a Board of directors or Committee of Management is essential
- Satisfactory Referee, Police Record and Working with Children Checks
- An approved application for Full membership of DJA
- A Working with Children Check, and a
- Directors’ ID issued by the Australian Business Registry Services (ABRS)
the costs of all of the above will be reimbursed by DJA.
Specific Skills, knowledge and/or experience in at least two of the following priorities identified by the DJA Board for appointment to fill a Casual Vacancy.
- Legal training
- The Victorian OHS Act 2004
- Marketing, promotion and public relations
- The Victorian Children, Youth & Families Act 2005
- Media Training
- Business Development
- Grant writing
- Intellectual property and copyright
- Strategic Planning
- Targeted Strategic Relationships e.g. mergers, partnerships, MOU’s, acquisitions
- Disability social enterprises
- Fundraising
Board Meetings are held monthly (Up to 2 hours) by mutual agreement amongst Board Members, and other Project Sub-committee Meetings may be scheduled as determined by the Board. Attendance may be in-person or remote / online for members in regional or from interstate areas)
