Japara Neighbourhood House or simply ‘Japara’ is a not-for-profit organisation that has been serving the community for over 45 years. The Japara Strategic Plan identifies Japara as a ‘Village’ working to build a connected community by being a caring, inclusive and socially sustainable village responding to community need.
Japara provides directly or within partnered programs socially inclusive educational, recreational, health and wellbeing and social and economic support opportunities for our local and surrounding community. Japara also provides a children’s day care service.
Japara views every participant in our programs or services as a ‘partner’ in our priority focus to invest in a connected community, overcoming isolation.
The role is pivotal in the growth of programs offering social or economic benefit outcomes that make a material and meaningful difference in individual lives and the wider community. You will be a driving force as part of a team in developing new community benefit programs or working with existing or new partners to establish similar outcomes.
Key focus areas include overcoming isolation or loneliness and lack of social connection through grant, sponsor or Japara funded projects such as LinkUP which involves increasing women’s participation in sport or recreation, Friendly Voices which offers English conversation with refugees through volunteers via an online video platform, a garden club that increases healthy eating, food harvest and social connection or integrating Japara’s children’s and family programs to enhance social benefit outcomes for children and parents or carers.
You will seek out grant opportunities and program partners and support volunteers to engage in programs. Your own approach and commitment to enhancing the lives of others will build vibrant programs. Respecting diversity is essential and working against stereotypes that limits opportunity and change in people’s lives.
You will have a diverse work background that allows you to bring multiple experiences to the role and an ability to establish partnerships, understand community development and ways to bring ideas and resources together to build solid programs. You will understand ‘lived experience’ and respect the voices of those with many stories to tell and have a passion for social justice outcomes. You will also need a positive attitude, an ability to see challenge as an opportunity and work collaboratively in a team environment to harness everyone’s skills.
Japara has flexible work hours and working from home within an overall team environment. There are opportunities for training and development and a dynamic team approach to planning and work. Japara offers an opportunity to make a difference in people's lives and impact social justice outcomes at a community level.
