WHO ARE WE

DVAC has a long history of providing high quality services to women, children/young people and individuals who have experienced domestic, family, and sexual violence in the Ipswich, Toowoomba, and surrounding regions. DVAC works from a feminist perspective. We have a gender analysis of domestic, family, and sexual violence that understands that domestic, family, and sexual violence is a result of systemic power imbalances and inequalities.

ABOUT THE ROLE

As a Senior Domestic and Family Violence (DFV) Specialist, you'll apply your expertise to deliver comprehensive information, referral, and brokerage services. This entails conducting meticulous risk assessments and leveraging available resources to ensure clients receive tailored support. Your pivotal role encompasses coordinating cases, managing counseling sessions, and providing guidance to individuals impacted by domestic and family violence.

In addition to direct client interaction, you'll collaborate with fellow team members and external facilitators to facilitate group sessions supporting those affected by domestic violence. Establishing robust relationships with stakeholders and internal DVAC staff is crucial to ensuring clients receive the necessary access, eligibility, and assistance. Moreover, you'll actively engage with key government and non-government stakeholders through participation in relevant networks and forums.

As a team leader, you'll offer support and mentorship to colleagues, contributing to the enhancement and refinement of best practices. Come join us in our mission to deliver a holistic response to clients in distress and contribute to building a safer future for all.

QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS & REQUIREMENTS

  • Possession of relevant tertiary qualifications in the human services field
  • Experience and skills in mentorship & leadership
  • Experience and skills in gender-based violence risk assessment, safety planning, crisis support, domestic and family violence and sexual violence counselling, system advocacy and case management is preferred
  • Working knowledge of or the ability to acquire understanding of the Domestic & Family Violence Protection Act 2012 and knowledge of court and legislative proceedings as they relate to the Act
  • Working knowledge of or the ability to acquire understanding of the Child Protection Act 1999 Qld
  • Current Queensland driver’s license
  • Current Blue Card (QLD working with children check)
  • All DVAC staff are required to complete a National Police Check upon successful offer of position.

  • Collaborative Skills and Team Building: Demonstrate proficiency in fostering collaboration within a team environment. Explain strategies for building positive and effective working relationships with colleagues, stakeholders, and relevant parties.
  • Capacity Development within Teams: Describe your approach to developing the capacity of team members, particularly in the context of supporting survivors of domestic and family violence. Explain how you facilitate skill development, knowledge sharing, and mutual support among team members, fostering a culture of growth and support.
  • Administrative Proficiency: Outline your knowledge and proficiency in various administrative functions essential to the role.
