We are seeking a compassionate, experienced, and highly skilled Mental Health Specialist to join our Salam Safe House team. This rewarding role provides specialist, trauma-informed, and culturally responsive mental health support to women and young children who have experienced, or are at risk of experiencing, domestic, family and sexual violence (DFSV).
Working within a multidisciplinary team, you will deliver therapeutic counselling, psychosocial support, risk assessment, safety planning, and service coordination to support women on their journey toward safety, recovery, and wellbeing.

Key Responsibilities
- Provide specialist trauma-informed counselling and psychosocial support to women and young women impacted by domestic, family and violence (DFV)
- Deliver individual and group counselling, support recovery planning, and assist clients to access health, housing, employment, financial and other community services.
- Conduct risk assessments and safety planning in accordance with recognised DFV frameworks and organisational policies.
- Deliver culturally responsive, inclusive and gender-affirming services that support the safety, wellbeing and empowerment of women from diverse backgrounds.
- Coordinate referrals and work collaboratively with specialist DFV services, government agencies and community organisations to ensure integrated support for clients.
- Develop and maintain strong partnerships with key stakeholders to enhance service delivery and outcomes for women.
- Maintain accurate case notes, client records and reports, ensuring compliance with funding, legislative and quality requirements.
- Participate in service development, clinical supervision, team meetings and continuous improvement activities to support high-quality service delivery.

KEY SELECTION CRITERIA
- Relevant tertiary qualification in a psychosocial field – with qualifications in Psychology or Mental Health Social Work most appropriate – and/or significant relevant experience delivering specialist counselling responses using trauma-informed approaches.
- Demonstrated experience providing specialist mental health and therapeutic counselling support to women, particularly those impacted by domestic, family and sexual violence.
- Sound knowledge of trauma-informed practice, the dynamics of DFSV (including coercive control), and risk assessment and safety planning.
- Demonstrated ability to deliver inclusive, gender-affirming and culturally responsive support, including to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander and CALD women.
- Demonstrated ability to coordinate referrals and work collaboratively within an integrated service system.
- Strong case management, documentation and reporting skills, including contribution to funded reporting requirements.
- High-level written and oral communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with vulnerable Service Users.
- An ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
Desirable Selection Criteria
- Eligibility for membership of a relevant professional body (e.g. AHPRA registration as a psychologist).
- Ability to communicate in a second language and/or experience working with CALD and refugee communities.
