First Nations Community Development Worker - Taree

  • Hourly Rate: $40.72 per hour - $45.26 per hour (dependent on qualifications and experience)

This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated and experienced First Nations Community Development Worker, who is passionate about providing effective support and services to the community.

ABOUT THE ROLE:

We are currently seeking a dedicated and experienced First Nations Community Development Worker, to support and promote the overall operations of Interrelate by providing First Nation-specific information and advice to staff and management and developing networks with, and information to, First Nations communities and elders about Interrelate and post-separation services.

Duties will include:

  • Assist First Nations people to access Interrelate services through, creating good working relationships, establishing referral pathways, developing innovative strategies, networking and promotion and enhancement of Interrelate Services.
  • Provide culturally specific advice to Interrelate staff in the region
  • Identify community needs
  • Engage Human centered design practices
  • Recommend responses to benefit local First Nations communities
  • Organise group seminars, community events, forums, expo's and workshops
  • Facilitate Aboriginal Building Connections training for community

This role will be primarily based in Port Macquarie and may be required to travel and work across multiple sites, including, Taree, as well as other locations to support the community needs in the Mid North Coast region. Due to the travel required for this role, where is pool car is not available it will require the use of your own personal vehicle, all kilometres will be reimbursed when using your own personal vehicle.

We have recently begun offering very limited face to face services under strict conditions following a risk assessment.

ROLE REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Aboriginality or Torres Strait Islander background (Interrelate considers that being Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander is a genuine occupational qualification under section 14 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977, NSW)
  2. Experience in community work / family mediation; particularly with First Nations Families and children and/or qualifications / certificates in Community Development social science, social work or related fields.
  3. Experience in Case Management or willingness to develop skills.
  4. Experience in First Nations Community Engagement
  5. Understanding of the services provided by Interrelate
  6. Understanding of social issues affecting First Nations communities within the local region
  7. Experience in consulting with the First Nations community and relevant stakeholders
  8. Understanding of the impact of family separation and breakdown on children with particular emphasis within First Nations families
  9. Knowledge of Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander specific services and programs in the local region
  10. Experience in the development, implementation and evaluation of programs and services to the community; particularly First Nations communities
  11. Knowledge of child protection and mandatory reporting
  12. Good oral and written communication skills
  13. Good administrative, Windows/Microsoft Office and organisational skills
  14. Ability to undertake obligations of the role via online mediums such as Zoom and Teams
