Impact you will have in this role

In this role, you will have the opportunity to shape the financial future of one of Australia’s leading conservation organisations while directly contributing to large-scale environmental impact. By leading the finance function and driving strategic financial innovation, you will help unlock new sources of capital to support projects that protect biodiversity, restore ecosystems and strengthen conservation outcomes nationwide. Your leadership will influence how investment is deployed across philanthropy, government, corporate partnerships and emerging environmental markets, creating sustainable funding pathways for long-term environmental change.

You will play a key role in strengthening the organisation’s capability, governance and readiness for growth. Through building a high-performing finance function, enhancing systems and processes and providing trusted strategic advice to the CEO and Board, you will help position FNPW for its next phase of impact and expansion. Key responsibilities

  • Provide strategic financial leadership to support FNPW’s long-term sustainability, growth and conservation impact across Australia.
  • Lead all aspects of financial management, including budgeting, forecasting, reporting, compliance and long-term financial planning.
  • Partner with the CEO, Executive Leadership Team and Board to deliver commercially sound insights and support informed strategic decision-making.
  • Develop innovative funding and capital strategies that leverage philanthropy, government investment, impact capital and environmental market opportunities.
  • Establish and maintain strong financial governance, risk management and compliance frameworks that support organisational integrity and accountability.
  • Oversee and optimise financial operations, systems and processes to improve efficiency, scalability and organisational performance.
  • Deliver robust financial modelling and analysis to evaluate new initiatives, partnerships, investment opportunities and large-scale conservation projects.
  • Build and lead a high-performing finance team and culture that is collaborative, future-focused and aligned with FNPW’s mission and strategic direction.

About you

You are a strategic, impact-driven financial leader who brings clarity, confidence and momentum to a growing organisation. You thrive in dynamic environments and are motivated by building capability and enabling meaningful conservation outcomes.

You will also have:

  • CA/CPA qualifications and significant senior financial leadership experience, with Strong understanding of NFP accounting and reporting requirements.
  • Strong expertise across financial management, governance, compliance, strategic planning and long-term financial stewardship.
  • Proven experience operating within complex, multi-source funding environments, including grants, partnerships, philanthropy and government funding.
  • A strong commercial mindset, supported by advanced financial modelling capability and the ability to assess growth opportunities, investments and innovative funding structures.
  • The confidence and communication skills to engage effectively with Boards, executives and external stakeholders, translating complex financial information into clear strategic insight.
  • A proactive and adaptable leadership style, with the ability to work effectively in fast-paced environments and bring a practical, solutions-oriented approach to challenges and opportunities.
  • A genuine alignment with FNPW’s values and mission, along with a passion for conservation, sustainability and creating meaningful environmental impact.
