THE HEART RESEARCH INSTITUTE (The HRI) is an internationally recognised Medical Research Institute that performs ground-breaking cardiovascular research from our state-of-the-art facilities located in Newtown. For over 35 years, The HRI has been one of Australia's leading research organisations working to detect, prevent and treat heart disease. We currently have a great opportunity for a skilled Human Resources Officer to join our small HR team on a full-time basis. You will be located in our head office in Eliza Street Newtown, but you will also work with our staff located at the nearby Charles Perkins Centre at the University of Sydney and Royal Prince Alfred Hospital.
The role is varied and covers a wide range of HR generalist responsibilities for our 200 employees, students, visitors and contractors including:
- Prepare employment contracts, variation letters and associated documents
- Support HR Advisors with recruitment, onboarding and exit processes
- Support HR Advisors and Director with employee relations matters
- Develop and maintain HR policies and procedures
- Data management through our HR system, Employment Hero
- Support performance management - including the annual performance review cycle
- Support the reward and recognition program and other initiatives
- Assist in the annual salary review process and salary benchmarking
- Monthly Payroll – support the HR Advisor in working with our external Payroll provider to ensure integrity and maintenance of payroll data
- Ad-hoc reporting and projects, as required

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:
- Demonstrated experience in an operational generalist human resources role, across the entire employment lifecycle
- Relevant qualifications or equivalent experience
- Payroll experience, ideally with an outsourced payroll provider
- Experience with HRIS/Payroll systems (Experience using Employment Hero is desirable)
- Sound knowledge of employment legislation
- The ability to prioritise and negotiate deadlines
- Proficient Microsoft office skills - Excel and Word experience essential
- Strong administration, organisational, communication and stakeholder management skills, plus great attention to detail
- Experience working in a not-for-profit, scientific or medical organisation (PBI salary packaging knowledge will be highly regarded)
YOU ARE:
- Someone with at least 3 years’ experience as a HR Officer or HR Coordinator looking for a varied and interesting role where you can apply your knowledge and learn new skills
- Experience supporting a variety of HR tasks and work well with systems and databases
- Highly motivated and organised, but also flexible and adaptable
- Capable of independent work, but also enjoy working as part of a small team
- Able to prioritise and multi-task
- Someone with a great eye for detail, with excellent communication skills
- Able to manage complex and confidential information
- Able to build positive interpersonal relationships
