The GM of ROA is responsible for the overall operational and strategic management of ROA including the development of appropriate business and operating models, ensuring development and implementation of policies and procedures, supporting staff and managing stakeholder and donor relationships.

As a startup with a vision for becoming a sustainable social enterprise, the GM will primarily be responsible for leading the development of sustainable business models that would result in the financial independence of ROA

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic and operational oversight of ROA and act as the public face of the organisation
  • Lead the development of appropriate business models that will enable ROA to achieve a target of being a majority self-funded social enterprise.
  • Chair the ROA Steering Committee and assist with recruitment of appropriate expert participants
  • Prepare reports for the HOST Board in relation to ROA activities and strategic direction
  • Lead the development and implementation of the ROA Strategic Plan in collaboration with the HOST Executive Team
  • Participate in the HOST Executive Team as well as the HOST Leadership meetings to ensure appropriate bi-directional alignment and integration with the work of HOST International
  • Develop a competent team of staff and volunteers to realise the ROA Strategic Plan including annual performance reviews
  • Build and maintain relationships with donors and key stakeholders to ensure sustainable financial and operational support
  • Provide strategic advice to the HOST CEO in relation to emerging opportunities and risks facing ROA
  • Coordinate administrative support services provided by HOST International staff including but not limited to the departments of Finance/Accounting, HR, IT and Communications
  • Oversee the development and maintenance of data collection tools that support impact and output measurement
  • Prepare and monitor compliance with annual financial budgets
  • Ensure compliance with all donor and internal accountability reporting

Selection Criteria

Essential

  • Tertiary qualifications in Business or Community Services Management
  • Demonstrated experience in taking a project or startup to scale in business, social enterprise or for-purpose context
  • Demonstrated strategic, financial, operational and people management skills
  • Strong stakeholder engagement skills including political, corporate and donor relations
  • A leadership style which is solution focussed, enabling and collaborative
  • A deep understanding of the migrant and/or refugee journey including common employment barriers faced by this group

Desirable

  • Personal experience of migration
  • Experienced living in regional Australian communities
  • Understanding of the refugee and migrant support sector
  • Programming experience in employment or community engagement settings

ROA is a fully owned subsidiary of HOST International and therefore the role will form part of the HOST Executive Team and report to the CEO of HOST. Administrative and strategic services are provided by HOST in order to support the capacity and efficiency of the ROA team.
