Your new company

Established in 2014, this independent statutory body provides services and facilities to Victoria's courts. They are currently seeking Social Workers with experience in Family Violence to work full time until November 27, 2020 with the possibility to extend or become ongoing.

Your new role

You will be working within the Family Violence jurisdiction of the Magistrates’ Court of Victoria, alongside the Family Violence Registrar and a Family Violence Applicant Practitioner, LGBTIQ.

Your will provide non-legal information, support and referral for people who are respondents to an application for an intervention order or involved in criminal proceedings arising from or including allegations of family violence:

  • Conduct assessments and refer clients to ongoing support, case management services and programs
  • Address accountability, behaviour change and other issues contributing to the risk of further family violence
  • Provide information to magistrates in relation to court users and the availability of appropriate services and programs
  • Maintain accurate, confidential client records on the database and case management system
  • Travel to other courts and locations for outreach, family violence related meetings and duties as required

What you'll need to succeed

To succeed in this role you will have relevant qualifications in Welfare, Social Work, Psychology or Behavioural Sciences along with:

  • An understanding of issues affecting LGBTIQ people
  • The ability to promote client accountability for their use of violence and identify and work against collusion
  • Expert knowledge and skills in the provision of support, crisis containment, risk assessment, and case coordination
  • Demonstrated understanding of the Family Violence Protection Act 2008, the MARAM and Victoria Police Code of Practice
  • Strong written and verbal communication, problem solving, interpersonal, self management, stakeholder management, service excellence and computer skills
