About Hepatitis SA

Hepatitis SA is the lead community-based, not-for-profit organisation responding to viral hepatitis, primarily hepatitis B and hepatitis C, in South Australia.

The organisation provides education, peer education, information, referral and support services for people affected by viral hepatitis, people at risk, health and welfare professionals, and the broader community. Hepatitis SA is also a Needle and Syringe Program secondary site and operates harm reduction peer services across various NSP sites in metropolitan Adelaide.

With a committed team, strong sector relationships and a community-led approach, Hepatitis SA plays an important role in public health, harm reduction, advocacy and providing services for priority populations.

About the role

Reporting to the Board, the CEO will lead the day-to-day management and implementation of the strategic direction of Hepatitis SA.

This is a broad, hands-on role spanning service delivery, advocacy, funding and financial management, people management and stakeholder engagement, and advising the Board on policy, strategic and operational direction, organisational risk and finances.

The incoming CEO will build on strong organisational foundations while strengthening funding sustainability, systems and processes and impact reporting.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead Hepatitis SA’s operations, programs and people
• Ensure services remain responsive to communities affected by viral hepatitis
• Oversee education, peer education, support and harm reduction programs
• Manage budgets, grants, funding submissions, acquittals, tenders and reporting
• Build strong relationships with funders, government, sector partners and community stakeholders
• Represent Hepatitis SA in local, state and national forums
• Advise the Board re strategy, governance, risk, and budget planning and monitoring
• Lead and support a small, diverse team, including peer workers
• Strengthen systems, policies, documentation and organisational processes
• Communicate the impact of Hepatitis SA’s work to funders, partners and the broader community

What we’re looking for:

• Experience: Senior leadership experience in health, human services, community, not-for-profit or related settings
• Financial Capability: Strong skills in budgeting, grants, acquittals, funding reports and tenders
• Governance Knowledge: Experience working effectively with a Board
• Community Understanding: Appreciation of health promotion, harm reduction lived experience and peer-led programs
• Ability to Navigate Complexity: Comfortable operating in challenging environments with the ability to work autonomously, exercise sound judgement, and navigate complexity with confidence.
• Communication: Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Leadership Style: Practical, inclusive, non-judgemental and able to build trust with diverse communities
• Flexibility: Ability to work flexibly and undertake some intrastate and interstate travel
