Board Directors (Voluntary) - Treasurer & Fundraising / Marketing

Guthrie House

Guthrie House is seeking two skilled and passionate women to join our voluntary Board of Directors.

We are specifically seeking:

  • One Board Director with finance and accounting experience to undertake the Treasurer role; and
  • One Board Director with experience in fundraising, marketing, communications, partnerships or business development.

The Board meets every two months, primarily online, with approximately one or two in-person meetings or planning days held in Sydney each year.

About Guthrie House

Guthrie House is a highly respected specialist alcohol and other drugs (AOD) and transitional support service with over 40 years’ experience supporting women involved in the criminal legal system, including women exiting custody or recently released from prison with their accompanying children.

Located on Gadigal Land in Sydney’s Inner West, we support women from across NSW and prioritise Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women, women experiencing or at risk of homelessness, and pregnant women.

On average, 60–70% of the women we support each year identify as First Nations women. Guthrie House is committed to culturally safe practice and has targeted cultural programs, cultural care plans, and First Nations representation across both our staff team and Board of Directors.

Our service is accredited at Award Level through the Australian Service Excellence Standards and operates from a trauma-informed and person-centred framework.

About the Role

The Board provides governance, strategic oversight and leadership to ensure Guthrie House continues to deliver high-quality, ethical and responsive services to women and children with complex needs.

As a small but highly regarded specialist service, Board Directors play a meaningful and active role in supporting the organisation’s sustainability, governance and future direction.

This is an opportunity to contribute your professional skills to a respected specialist service while supporting meaningful social impact for women and children experiencing some of the most complex forms of disadvantage in NSW.

A more detailed position description is available on request.

We Strongly Encourage Applications From Women With Experience In:

  • Finance and accounting (Treasurer role)
  • Fundraising and donor engagement
  • Marketing and communications
  • Partnerships and business development

First Nations women are strongly encouraged to apply.

All applicants must demonstrate:

  • A commitment to social justice and gender-responsive practice;
  • Alignment with trauma-informed and culturally safe values; and
  • A passion for supporting women and children impacted by trauma, homelessness, alcohol and other drugs, and involvement with the criminal legal system.

Guthrie House considers being a woman to be a genuine occupational qualification for this position under section 31 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977 (NSW).

Guthrie House acknowledges the Traditional Custodians of the lands throughout Australia and recognises their continuing connection to land, waters and community. We pay our respects to Elders past and present and extend that respect to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
