About The Role

Based in Brimbank-Melton (Keilor Downs), the Specialist Family Violence Practitioner – Family Services plays a critical role in strengthening responses to family violence across the Family Services Alliance.

This position works closely with family services practitioners to provide secondary consultation, mentoring, and capacity building, ensuring high-quality, coordinated support to families experiencing or at risk of family violence.

The role carries a small caseload and is responsible for undertaking MARAM risk assessments, safety planning, and case planning, with a strong focus on improving outcomes for women, children and families. 
 
You will also contribute to sector development, including facilitating training, participating in Communities of Practice, and working collaboratively with partner organisations across the alliance.
This is a max term contract until 3rd January 2027.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide secondary consultation and specialist guidance to family services practitioners on family violence risk, MARAM assessments, and safety planning
  • Deliver comprehensive MARAM assessments and ensure appropriate information sharing to support safety outcomes
  • Manage a small caseload (up to six families) requiring specialist intervention and planning
  • Support families to improve safety, wellbeing, and capacity to meet children’s needs in line with legislation and best practice
  • Contribute to and participate in Communities of Practice, including MARAM and Safe and Together frameworks
  • Facilitate training and capacity-building sessions across the Family Services Alliance
  • Collaborate with partner organisations to strengthen service responses and system integration
  • Lead or participate in family violence and family services working groups
  • Maintain accurate case notes, data, and reporting in line with compliance and quality standards
  • Build strong relationships with internal teams and external stakeholders to improve client outcomes

About you

  • Degree qualification in Social Work, Psychology or related discipline (essential)
  • Demonstrated experience working in the family violence sector, including case management with complex families 
  • Strong knowledge of the MARAM Framework, including experience conducting comprehensive risk assessments
  • Experience supporting families with complex needs (e.g. mental health, substance use, parenting challenges)
  • Experience working with CALD communities and diverse populations (highly regarded) 
  • Excellent communication, stakeholder engagement, and facilitation skills
  • Strong organisational skills and ability to manage competing priorities

  2. hold a Bachelor of Social Work or other equivalent qualification OR
  3. have minimum 5 years relevant professional experience, OR a related qualification as per the mandatory minimum qualification requirements. OR
  4. hold significant cultural knowledge and experience or lived experience, and have faced barriers to educational pathways
