About the Role

The Archives & Records Service Co-ordinator is responsible for preserving, managing, and providing access to the historical records and heritage collections of the Sisters of the Good Shepherd and their mission across Australia and New Zealand. The role oversees archival collections, records management systems, and preservation practices, while supporting research, retrieval, and interpretation of archival materials. Working collaboratively with Sisters, staff, researchers, and external stakeholders, the Archives & Records Service Co-ordinator promotes the Good Shepherd heritage through education, publications, exhibitions, and outreach activities, ensuring the organisation’s history and legacy are preserved and accessible for future generations.  

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and preserve archival collections, including records, photographs, audiovisual materials, artefacts, and works of art.
  • Maintain and enhance the Archive Management System, ensuring accurate cataloguing, documentation, and accessibility of archival materials.
  • Oversee records management practices, including retention schedules, disposal guidelines, and compliance with legislative and organisational requirements.
  • Provide archive reference and research services, responding to enquiries and supporting access to records in line with privacy and confidentiality requirements.
  • Research and interpret historical records, providing historical context and information to support organisational needs and external requests.
  • Contribute to exhibitions, publications, presentations, and other initiatives that promote and celebrate the history and heritage of the Sisters of the Good Shepherd.
  • Deliver records management advice, training, and support to Sisters, staff, and colleagues.
  • Develop and manage the Archives budget, prepare reports, and contribute to archive-related projects and initiatives.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders, external archival organisations, and historical societies to support best practice and continuous improvement.

About you

  • Graduate Diploma in Archives and Records Management, or similar
  • Additional tertiary qualifications within Research or History would be valuable
