The Coordinator Environment & Sustainability is crucial to providing team leadership to deliver our Community Vision and Council Plan. You will lead a team to drive key policy, procedures, strategies, projects and programs, meeting with community expectations in creating a more environmentally sustainable municipality.

With continuous improvement as core focus, this role allows significant scope to lead a team to:

  • Embed climate resilience;
  • Ensure environmental protection and enhancement;
  • Drive integrated water management actions;
  • Deliver the management and transition of waste services and operations across Council operations and services, and;  
  • Partner with Community Groups, Traditional Owners, key agencies and stakeholders and Council.

What you will bring to the role

  • You have an excellent grounding in two (2) or more of the portfolio key service areas (climate, waste and resource recovery, environment, integrated water management and sustainability). You have the ability to think outside the square, a willingness to try new things and a genuine desire to learn, share knowledge and make a difference.

  • You are a highly self-motivated, positive and passionate professional with a desire to collaborate within and across teams, to establish and manage strategic, productive relationships. You have demonstrated experience in leading teams and delivering projects, programs and operations to achieve strong customer service delivery outcomes for our community, stakeholders and environment.
  • You comfortably straddle strategy and operations. You can supervise site operations and projects, as well as drive forward detailed action plans, programs and manage projects with a continuous improvement lens, whilst understanding the bigger picture.
  • You are a people person, thriving on leading through change and motivating people to be at their best whilst creating a dynamic, innovative and accountable team culture. Your values will align with ours and you will be able to demonstrate your commitment to community. 
  • You have a demonstrated budget management experience.
  • You can demonstrate application of key relevant legislative frameworks, including the Environment Protection Act (2017), to embed compliance, integrate climate resilience, create a circular economy and drive initiatives in sustainability and environmental management.
