About FVLSAC

Family Violence Legal Service Aboriginal Corporation (SA) provides legal and non-legal support to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people affected by family, domestic and sexual violence.

We are an Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisation with a strong regional footprint and a clear commitment to culturally safe, trauma-informed and client-centred practice.

Our work is grounded in community, justice, safety and self-determination.

About the role

The Senior Solicitor will provide legal advice, representation, casework, education and support to FVLSAC clients, with a focus on matters involving:

  • Family and domestic violence
  • Family law
  • Child protection
  • Intervention orders
  • Victims of Crime compensation
  • Related civil and criminal law issues

You will work closely with the Principal Legal Officer, other Solicitors, Client Support Officers, administrative staff, local Aboriginal organisations, courts, SAPOL and community service providers. This includes supporting FVLSAC’s broader programs and early intervention work, such as Sista 2 Sista, community legal education and culturally safe community engagement activities.

This role also provides an opportunity to contribute to supervision, mentoring, stakeholder engagement, community legal education, service development and law reform advocacy.

Why this role is different

This is a senior position with substance.

You will not be one small part of a large system. You will be a visible and valued legal leader within a specialist Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisation delivering life-changing support to people experiencing extreme hardship, disadvantage and complex legal and social issues.

You will have the opportunity to:

  • Undertake meaningful, complex legal work
  • Work in a holistic model alongside client support staff
  • Build trusted relationships with Aboriginal communities and services
  • Support culturally safe and trauma-informed legal practice
  • Mentor and guide staff
  • Help shape regional service delivery
  • Contribute to systemic advocacy and law reform
  • Contribute to Sista 2 Sista, community legal education and early intervention activities, working alongside Client Support Officers to connect legal assistance with culturally safe support and community-led prevention work.

Why Port Lincoln?

Port Lincoln offers the kind of lifestyle many people talk about but rarely make happen.

Coastal living. Short commutes. Incredible beaches. National parks. Fishing, food, community and space to breathe.

For the right person, this role offers a rare combination: meaningful legal work, senior responsibility, strong organisational support and a lifestyle change backed by a significant relocation package.

What we are looking for

We are seeking a solicitor with:

  • A current unrestricted practising certificate in South Australia, or an equivalent certificate from another Australian state or territory that is transferable
  • At least five years’ relevant legal experience
  • Experience in family law, child protection, family violence, victims of crime, Legal Aid, Aboriginal Legal Service or community legal service settings
  • Capacity to manage complex legal matters and clients with complex needs
  • Strong communication, empathy and professional judgement
  • A genuine commitment to culturally safe, trauma-informed practice
  • Ability to work collaboratively with legal and non-legal staff
  • Capacity to work effectively in a regional setting

A Category A practising certificate, law practice management training and knowledge of relevant regional service networks will be highly regarded.

Special conditions

The successful applicant will need to:

  • Be eligible for admission as a legal practitioner in the Supreme Court of South Australia
  • Hold, or be eligible to hold, a practising certificate recognised in South Australia
  • Hold a current driver’s licence
  • Be willing to undertake regional travel
  • Maintain a satisfactory National Police Clearance and DHS Working with Children Check
