The Role

We are seeking a passionate and proactive National Volunteer and Community Engagement Manager to lead volunteer engagement and community participation activities across Friends with Dignity nationally.

Reporting to the CEO, this role is responsible for recruiting, onboarding, engaging and retaining more than 200 volunteers nationwide, while leading key community engagement initiatives and campaigns. The role also oversees corporate volunteering programs, community fundraising activities, volunteer recognition programs, and the implementation of a Volunteer Management System to support organisational growth and volunteer experience.

This is a hybrid role with the requirement to travel to the Warehouse in Meadowbrook at least once per week and other volunteer/community sites.

Key Responsibilities

Volunteer Management

  • Recruit, onboard and retain volunteers across the organisation.
  • Coordinate volunteer placement and support across multiple programs and locations.
  • Maintain volunteer records, role descriptions, policies and onboarding processes.
  • Coordinate volunteer training, orientation and ongoing development.
  • Monitor volunteer engagement and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Foster a positive, inclusive and supportive volunteer culture.

Volunteer Management System

  • Lead the implementation and ongoing optimisation of a Volunteer Management System.
  • Work with stakeholders to define requirements and workflows.
  • Support system rollout, training and ongoing adoption.
  • Ensure data quality, privacy and compliance standards are maintained.

Volunteer & Corporate Engagement

  • Serve as the primary contact for volunteers nationally.
  • Coordinate volunteer communications, recognition programs and engagement activities.
  • Coordinate corporate volunteer days and foster positive volunteer experiences.
  • Build strong relationships with volunteers, corporate partners and community stakeholders.

Community Engagement

  • Lead community engagement activities across Gold Coast, Logan, Brisbane, Newcastle, Melbourne and Perth.
  • Develop and manage an annual community engagement calendar.
  • Coordinate awareness-raising and volunteer recruitment events.
  • Manage independent fundraising enquiries and community-led fundraising activities.
  • Lead key campaigns including the Pyjama Drive and Christmas Drive.
  • Prepare reports, impact summaries and stakeholder updates following community activities.
  • Contribute insights and information to support grants, fundraising and partnership activities.

About You

You are a highly organised and relationship-focused professional who is passionate about community impact and volunteer engagement. You are confident working independently, influencing stakeholders, managing competing priorities, and building strong and lasting relationships with volunteers, partners and community groups.

Skills and Experience We're Looking For

  • Experience in volunteer coordination, volunteer management or community engagement.
  • Experience recruiting, onboarding and supporting volunteers across multiple programs.
  • Demonstrated experience planning and coordinating community events, campaigns or fundraising initiatives.
  • Experience working with corporate partners and managing corporate volunteering opportunities.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and relationship-building skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience implementing or managing volunteer management systems or similar platforms.
  • Strong project coordination skills.
  • Experience within the not-for-profit, charity or community services sector is desirable.

Compliance Requirements

The successful person will be required to hold or obtain:

  • National Police Check
  • Current Queensland Driver Licence
  • Eligibility to work in Australia
