Chief Executive Officer

Ethnic Community Services Co-operative

The Ethnic Community Services Co-operative (ECSC) is looking for our next CEO to lead us into the next chapter of our journey as a dynamic, grassroots community organisation with a far-reaching impact. We are seeking a leader committed to promoting multiculturalism, human rights, social justice and access and equity. We are seeking a strategic leader who is able to support a values-driven organisation to thrive during times of change and uncertainty. To succeed in this role, the leader must be collaborative, highly value workplace diversity and bring people together to achieve strategic goals.

About the Ethnic Community Services Co-operative (ECSC)

At the Ethnic Community Services Co-operative (ECSC), our purpose is to advance access and equity to all services, and social inclusion within Australian society, for people from Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) backgrounds. Based in Sydney’s Inner West and working from a community development perspective, we are committed to working directly with communities at the grassroots, while amplifying our voice and impact through engaging in public policy and sector development.

We have a long and proud history of innovation, arising from our deep understanding of community needs:

  • When we identified in the 1970s that children from CALD backgrounds were largely excluded from childcare services, we pioneered the Bicultural Support model of inclusion in Early Childhood Education and Care, which is recognised by UNESCO as a model of best practice.
  • When we recognised in the 1980s that people from CALD backgrounds with disability were experiencing discrimination and marginalisation, we established the first disability advocacy service in NSW for people from CALD backgrounds.
  • When we identified in the 1990s that many aged care services were inaccessible to older people from CALD backgrounds, we established the Ethnic Access Program to promote inclusion and sector support.

Time and again, we have led the way for inclusion and diversity in NSW.

Today, our mission continues, in a context of rapidly shifting policy and funding approaches. We currently develop and deliver innovative services across NSW to the most vulnerable and disadvantaged people from CALD backgrounds, including children and families, people with disability, older people, and carers. We also build the capacity of mainstream service providers to facilitate culturally responsive service delivery; and promote the rights of CALD people through systemic advocacy and input into local, state, national and international policy.

Who we are looking for:

  • A strategic leader, who will drive progress towards our vision and mission, while ensuring the sustainability and agility of the organisation.
  • A collaborative leader, who will highly value the skills and knowledge of our diverse workforce, and who will build deep relationships with our diverse stakeholders.
  • A values-driven leader, who is absolutely committed to promoting diversity and inclusion, and who models trust, respect, and empowerment in their day-to-day work.
