About the Role

We are seeking a Community Engagement Officer to support the delivery of engaging programs, events, and initiatives for deaf and hard of hearing children and young people across Australia. This is a dynamic role where no two days are the same. You’ll play a key part in delivering youth engagement activities, supporting events, creating accessible communications, and building strong relationships with communities and stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support delivery of DCA’s Youth Engagement Strategy, including planning and coordination of activities and events
  • Assist with community events, national engagement initiatives, and youth programs
  • Support Production Team and develop Auslan and video content for internal and external communications
  • Provide administrative and operational support to the Community Engagement team
  • Build and maintain relationships with children, young people, families, and community stakeholders
  • Support stakeholder engagement across community networks and partners
  • Ensure child safety and cultural safety standards are upheld at all times
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation in line with organisational policies
  • Contribute to a positive, collaborative team culture and continuous improvement initiatives

About You

You are passionate about community engagement and making a difference. You’re organised, collaborative, and confident working with diverse groups.

You will bring:

  • Experience in a community engagement, youth, or support role
  • Experience working with children, young people, and stakeholders
  • Strong communication skills, including presenting to groups
  • Ability to build and maintain effective relationships
  • Strong organisational and time management skills
  • A collaborative, proactive, and adaptable approach

Requirements

Essential

  • Certificate IV in Auslan or native fluency in Auslan
  • Current Working with Children Check and Police Check
  • NDIS Worker Screening Check (or willingness to obtain)
  • Valid Driver’s Licence and a car
  • Willingness to travel nationally as required

Desirable:

  • Experience in the not-for-profit, disability, or community services sectors
  • Project coordination or project management experience
  • Knowledge of Adobe Express, Canva and other design programs
