About the position
The new position within the Equity and Diversity team delivers projects and initiatives that support Council’s objectives under the Towards Equality Framework. Your work will help create an inclusive and respectful Darebin community.
You will be responsible for delivering a range of projects, initiatives and advocacy activities that support Council’s efforts as a Welcoming City, in addition to addressing racism and discrimination.
In this position, you will ensure that the needs and aspirations of Darebin’s culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) communities are reflected and included in all of Council’s policies, services and programs.

To be successful, you will need to be able to demonstrate:
- Your experience and understanding of cultural diversity issues within a local government context.
- The capacity to build relationships and work effectively across diverse sectors including community, government and not for profit.
- The ability to work within a large organisation and develop cross functional working relationships to gain cooperation of colleagues and community organisations.
- Empathy and cultural awareness, including the ability to liaise with and build trust and rapport with diverse groups and leaders in the community.
