About the position

The newly created position of Community Development Officer – Interfaith and Multicultural within the Equity and Wellbeing Department will deliver strategies and initiatives that support the wellbeing and participation of Darebin’s multicultural and interfaith communities.

You will use a community development approach to build and facilitate a better understanding of relationships between communities of diverse faiths and cultural backgrounds, with an objective to create a respectful and cohesive Darebin community.

You will also assist with the development and implementation of policy to support Council in its response to the changing needs of its multi-faith communities.

To be successful, you will need to be able to demonstrate:

  • Your capacity to engage and work effectively with culturally and linguistically diverse and interfaith communities and individuals.
  • Your understanding of a community development approaches and principles.
  • The ability to work within a large organisation and develop cross functional working relationships to gain cooperation of colleagues and community organisations.
  • Empathy and cultural awareness, including the ability to liaise with and build trust and rapport with diverse groups and leaders in the community.
