Be part of Darebin City Council’s Equity and Wellbeing department. Deliver programs and strategies that address disadvantage within communities and neighbourhoods experiencing homelessness in Darebin. Based at East Preston Community Centre in Reservoir.

The Community Development Officer has a focus on working to support the needs of people experiencing homelessness. You will work to inform policy and provide advice to ensure relevant Council policies and programs seek to support and reach our most disadvantaged community members.

About the role:

As a Community Development Officer, you will use a place based approach with the community, providing access to a range of external partners to identify needs, assist and facilitate access to resources and build community capacity. One of the key settings for this role is the East Preston community, with a portfolio focus being food security and supporting the needs of people experiencing homelessness.

This role is parental leave part-time (2 days per week), on a job-share parental leave arrangement.

To be successful, you will be able to demonstrate your:

  • Experience and understanding of community development and place-based approaches.
  • Experience in project management, relating to community-based projects preferred.
  • Demonstrated capacity to manage time and plan and organise one’s own work, often under pressure and with competing priorities and expectations of stakeholders.
  • Ability to work within a large organisation and develop cross functional working relationships to gain cooperation of colleagues and community organisations.
